Flywheel Bolt

I was tightening down the nine bolts that hold the flywheel and one snapped off down inside there. If I leave the broken stud in there will it throw it off balance? Also, I am having problems getting the block bolted onto my engine stand. The adaptor on the back of the block wont let me get a nut on the other side of the bolts.

Those are special hardened bolts. What torque were you using? Its 47 lbs. You need to replace that bolt. Also these 9 bolts require a thread sealant or you will have an oil leak past the threads. The crank flange holes enter the oil side of the pan. Ford still sells these bolts. Nothing else will work. Don't try a grade 8 bolt either. Most engine stands will not spread wide enough for the bolting. Also what you need to be using is the standard tran to adapter bolt locations. No nuts are needed on any of them. I don't know where you are trying to mount the motor to the stand using nuts. Sorry..

I had this problem when we did the T18 conversion on my truck...snapped off one of the flywheel bolts with my mechanic's air wrench. Probably should have tightened them down with a torque wrench by hand..., we backed the broken piece out by drilling it out with a small drill bit and then pounded in a torx bit into it until it grabbed and then backed it out, then we got those special flywheel bolts at Ford. They were not cheap but at least I knew it was done right.

yea i got the 9 flywheel bolts and the 6 pressure plate bolts from ford....about $50!

i just put my flywheel and pressure plate on tonight! yeah 47 ft lbs. now my question is, the thread sealer wasn't for "bolts" so i got the blue locktite gel and used a good amount, this should seal the threads correct??? and there was no torque spec for the p/p so i used the german "goodntite" method.... will that be ok?

i got a 2000LB harbor frienght stand and i had to notch the plate so it'd spread enough to bolt it up.

I think I remember reading that my p/p bolt torque was around 19ft-lbs. I just used my 3/8" ratchet and the "goodntite" method as well.

ok I will drill it out and replace it them then. The bolts for the trans adaptor are to big for my engine stand so i ran longer bolts all the way through with nuts on the other side, but on the top drivers side I couldn't get a nut on it.
