Hello eavryone, I'm getting ready to fit my 81' f-600 for some highway trailer pullin duty, as the fuel pincher only does 60 @ 3000 rpm some revisions are in order, and I would like to have my duck's in order for when the / called by many " boat anchor" I have disintagrates. First off here are the specs on the truck. 81' f-600 with detroit 8.2l , it has a clark 285v 5 speed with 1 to 1 fifth gear , and a rockwell model f106 rear with 5.83 gears. With the rear I can only go one set of gears higher to a 5.29. So first off I'm looking for a brownie box with a .73 od, which would drop my rpm's to about 2500 @ 70. I have other people drive the truck so I want to keep the 5 speed to keep it simple for them. What size spicer should I be looking for for this size truck ? 5 or 7 series ? Total trailer weight wouldn't be more then 7 tons, and the truck is 4 tons empty. Now for when the motor quits I would like to switch to either a dt-360 or 466, my schoolbus camper had the 360 in it and I love that motor. It would deff be mechanical injection.... Now from what I'v read I think the 8.2l has an sae #2 bellhousing and the dt motor has an sae #3. Is that correct ? What kind of problems would I encounter trying to fit the dt to my clark besides that ? Does anyone think I would need to move my trans to accomadate the dt ?, as I would like to install the brownie box now, acuire the dt motor as I can and swap when the fuel pincher breaks... ANY help advise or parts leads would be of great help. Thank you, Rick, NJ.
