im wanting to build a run stand. Quite certain I've seen a thread or two of using truck frame, but cannot find it. Kinda wondering the pros and cons between a truck frame vs a custom one. Frame will be easier and quicker to build, so I know there must be a disadvantage in there somewhere. Having never used a test stand I know not about their nuances as far as accessibility to critical engine parts, maybe a truck frame limits the ability to work on odd parts. I can think of a few right now that the frame sometimes conflicts with....have I just answered my own question?

Please share any thoughts or experience, thank you

close Scott!
what I have is the stock engine cross member on my test stand.
which is nothing more than a 2 x 4 box frame on casters.
the cross members hold the engine mounts.
on the rear I have a engine stand I cut the top off.
and a T19 bell housing with a engine stand mounting pedestal bolted to it.

That's the one. I'll jus scarf out the crossmember then. That way this frame can still be rolled into the hedgerow.

This will be my new favorite shop toy for certain. Thought about using ford gauge cluster till I remembered how well they work.

Thanks for the pics!

this will be your favorite, until youre done with an engine, and gotta store it..lol
suggestion, buy a cheap set of gauges for oil press and coolant temp, and make them removeable for safe storage.

I've got too many engines to leave it empty he he he.
I will probably always have a running engine on it, if not for the simple fact I can test a pump on it. I'll build it so I can stab it with the pallet forks if I need it out of the way, but I'm also hoping that I can roll it under the bench. I'd also like a tach maybe volts.
