So I have the transmission in however i don't have any of the wiring done. I don't care about cruise control. Does any body know what wires I need to connect to get this thing to start? I am not going to hook up the nuetral or clutch safety I just want to jump two wires so it will start. Does any body know what wires I need to jump or how to figure it out. I know exactly what plug it is that plugs into the e4od but have no clue what actual wires it is. Any help is appreciated.

It's a 91. I just plugged the wire into the e4od while the e4od was on the side of my truck to start it and found out the starter just hits the flywheel. Is there a different starter for 4 speeds?

Never seen a different starter. But there may be something to research with the flywheels. I do know you need to jump the two red/blue wires in the plug. The factory does this on a manual truck right at the plug under the brake booster.

Ok thanks for the info on the wires. And I think my flywheel has a couple bad teeth or something. I was just messing with it and turned the flywheel a few inches and then the tried it and the starter grabbed it no problem and it started. Also I was wondering, what do I do with all these extra wires that I disconnected from the e4od? Just zip tie them to the frame out of the way?

If you want to go to the trouble, you could probably remove the complete harness and the computer, and someone might be interested in buying it if you do a careful job of it. You should have some wires down there for your reverse lights also.

Maybe after I get it going I will remove it. How much trouble is it?

I do have a black/pink. And I also have a red/blue but there is only one. What do I jump it to? The wire across from it in the plug is plain black. Do I jump it to that one. Sorry im not a wiring guy

Ya I'm just trying to figure out what wire I need to jump so I can start it. I'm just eliminating the neutral safety.

I've done the exact same thing.

1. I jumpered two wires at the plug for the E40d and never had starting problems. I don't remember the color codes off the top of my head. I used a chiltons book and it had a diagram of the gear selector switch on the side of the transmission. I think you could probably just pull the gear selector switch off the side of the transmission and use it as the jumper. Put the switch in park or neutral and it should work. I was thinking the switch doesn't actually do anything internal to the transmission.

2. There is a plug under the dash that will plug into a clutch safety switch if you want. I never installed a clutch safety switch as I liked being able to start the truck without the clutch pushed in.

3. starter is the same regarding e40d or 4-speed.

4. Removing the e40d computer and harness is a big job. The tranmission harness is completely integral to the underhood harness that goes to the cab and wraps around the front to the batteries and engine. Since I pulled my truck down to the frame I have removed most of the e40d stuff, but it was a wire by wire deal. and I had to jumper a lot of wires that normally run through the e40d computer. The tach, start wire, speed sensor, I think reverse lights all ran through the e40d. I haven't gotten my dash and wiring all back together so I can't comment on if I was successful. There is also transmisson wiring on the engine for the throttle sensor and a map sensor on the heater box. Like I said it's a big job.

5. For the 1st ten years of the swap I just zip tied all the e40d stuff up under the truck and left it there. I did have a flaky tach signal from time to time and finally it died. I'm assuming the e40d computer finally went bad. Otherwise the cruise, abs etc all worked fine running through the computer without the tranmission still connected.

One last question. I just took that switch off of the transmission and it runs. But now the overdrive lite is flashing. That's not going to affect anything will it?
