I searched, but came up empty. My Dad just bought a 97 F350 PS/E4OD CC Centurion.

Transmission has no forward, but still reverse.

I am unfamiliar with the layout of the E4OD. But I am assuming since it has reverse, that the pump and convertor are at least functional.

Fluid is clean, no burning smell.

Is there a common fault with this type of scenario?

Additionally, what the heck is this box?

i had an e4od do this to me on my way home one night, almost had to walk .my pick up did it after a long burnout session.needs a rebuild but could be lucky, could be a solenoid or wiring problem.take it to a tranny shop if you can and have a scanner put on it.might be able to get someone to come to your house.the is called an auxillary idle control.you use it to crank the idle up for extended idleing in cold weather, some type of pto driven accessory.if you dont want it,it is worth a few bux to someone if it works.

Idle does stay up high after start up, but knocks back down the second you touch the brake pedal. Cant get the screen to come on though.

Is the OD lite blinking? If so then it's in limp mode. The tach and speedo has to be working flawlessly. The MLPS on the tranny may be defective or the VSS. You sure you don't have 2nd gear Fwd.

Make sure the connectors are in tight on both the MLPS and pass side of tranny connector. If the heat shield on the tranny, pass side has been removed, heat could cause problems there from the exhaust pipe.

I haven't worked on an e4od before. Valve body comes out by removing the pan?

Remove the pan. From there you will see the valve body. To get to the feed bolts. You need to remove it. Be careful not to loose the balls. Be sure they go back into the same locations. Do not damage the gasket Replace it if it has damage. You will see three bolts with holes in them. Those are the feed bolts. The two to the rear are none to loosen up. The bolt to the front is for overdrive.

Feed bolt spec rear 8-12 foot lbs.
Feed bolt front 6-10 foot lbs.
Valve body bolts 80-100 Inch pounds. Start from the center and work your way out.

Check evilbay for a copy of the E4OD ATSG rebuild manual. They are cheap and can help if you lose a ball or two. :D
