Start at the torque converter, pull the dust cover off, start the engine and see if the TC turning, flex plate may have broke, check the 4 nuts TC to flex plate, check your U-joints. You wouldn't hear a loud pop from the tranny if it's internal.

My bet is flex plate. The rubber in it makes them sound that way when they give.... the good part is..... it wasn't a clank!!

Had exact same sound in a boat once. -cuss

Nice thing is, they're usually easy to replace and comparing parts prices, relatively inexpensive.

Good chance the input shaft quit. They make a loud snap, then you have no action from the tranny.

Normally they break while doing a good brake stand.:rotflmao

There is NO RUBBER in a flex platecookoo

Then what's that black rubbery stuff around the splined area?

You know, the triangle plate with springs in it. We call it a flex plate mounted to a fly wheel, which also mounts the ring gear.

What do you call it?

The torsional damper?

Ok... my bet is the torsional dampner.... howz that? Better?

What are you talking about??

Never seen a torsional damper? How about a drive plate? Maybe a drive damper?

Here, maybe this'll 'splain it better with pitchurz:

http://www.marinemechanic.com/site/page113.html

http://www.cpperformance.com/p-12334-high-performance-dampner-plate.aspx

In this one, you will see an exaggerated white component that is rubbery stuff:

Very obvious.

Nothing like this on truck flex plates?

Well I be dad-gummed!

Lernin' sumpthin new ev'ry day!! LOL

Sorry about foot in mouth, seen a gazzillion in boats, I normally don't play with cars-n-trucks....guess I'm just all wet!!!

I retract my obviously flawed guesstimate!

In the e-brat ad, I didn't see the splined section for the drive.... how does it fit?? Not trying to high-jack here.... but how does the "automotive flex plate" turn the tranny? How do you bolt the flex to both the crank and tranny at the same time?? I know cranks aren't splined.

The small pattern about 4" diameter bolts to the crank, then studs on the torque converter go thru the 12" diameter set of holes and you put nuts on the back side

WE all know a hell'va lot more than you think we do. Keep the questions coming.

How the hell did you get from Jacksonville to Afganistan in 12 hrs.
Hey buddy, WYA and stay safe, thanks for your service to the good old USA.

Put your truck in your signature, that way we don't have to refer back to the original post to know what you have, like when posting other questions.

Your brakes---Vacuum booster could be bad, run the engine to build vacuum, shut it off, quickly disconnect the vacuum hose to the booster, if you hear air rush in it's OK, if not you need a new one.

Bad fuel leak---Where is it? That's where your air intrusion is at. Fuel leaks out,air leaks in.

You got someone working on the truck while your gone?
