I recently received a card from the place where I usually get my
Chevy Cavlier serviced offering reduced price oil change, tire
rotation and balance, etc.
On the card was this statement:
"According to the Car Care Council, brake systems should be flushed
and brake fluid replaced every two [2] years. Brake fluid absorbs
moisture in the system and becomes acidic after two [2] years or
thirty [30,000] miles." *Source: <www.carcare.org>
In fifty [50] years of driving, two [2] years of high school
[1950's] auto shop class, and five [5] years in the auto service
trades, [1960's], I'd never read this in any literature.
This is the first [1st] time I've ever heard anything about changing
brake fluid other than during a normal system rebuild, [shoes, pads,
drums, rotors, wheel cylinders, etc.].
Is there any validity to this idea and what does Ford have to say on
this subject.
I don't recall reading about this in the Ford liturature provided
with my E350SD SMB RB15.

"Class A Motorhome — change the brake fluid and automatic transmission fluid every two years.
"

ford stops listing service specific checks at 150k on the E-350 van, and nowhere in the listing of what to do on specific services do they mention checking or flushing brake fluid.

i can understand with a motorhome why changing the brake fluid may be recomended every 2 yrs as with any fluid siting for extended periods of time, things will tend to build up in there, vs driving it regularly and having the fluid flowing will tend to keep nasty deposits from building up, especially in a mostly sealed system

now, for my personally opinion on them, unless in a situation as i decribed before (long periods of SITING unused) im not for brake flushes, i think they are something that someone decided he could convince the average shmo to do to take his or her sheeple self to do. situations that i do think a brake flush would be warrented include

changing out brake components at higher miledge and fluid being dirty
(example : front brake caliper siezed on an f350 with 103k, ill sell a brake flush yeah, thinking hey, his caliper siezed from some reason, why risk it)

but much beyond that, im not a beliver, almost none of my vehicles get brake flushes, my 84 got one when i first got it because it was a truck that sat for a while, so new fluid, but like i said
