Why would my truck run /drive better when the cold idle is on but when it gets to temp for it to shut off its has no power and seems like it has a miss?

From what you describe, it sounds like the timing is retarded. Where did you take it to be timed, how was it timed, and where did they set the timing at?

If it was "by ear" then it's not timed. By pulse method it should be 8.5* btdc @ 2000 rmp Set with the cold advance disconnected, or when the engine is warm.

The #'s are different when done by Luminosity, however I don't know them off the top of my head.

Also, because it never really hurts, go ahead and try the atf in the filter trick. Maybe it's just something gummed up in the IP. Take off and empty your fuel filter, then fill it with ATF, or dieselkleen (your choice, I like atf because it's cheaper) Be sure to only fill it from the ring of little holes around the outside, that way it filters everything that goes into the IP. Then put the filter back on, start the truck. In about 30-45 seconds, you will hear the sound of the idle change. That means it is now running on the ATF. Shut it off right then, and let it sit overnight. Next morning take it out and flog it for a bit. Sometimes that fixes odd symptoms.

Took it to diesel forward here in wisconsin. I don't know what way they timed it but he said I didn't have it that far off. I will give the trans fluid trick this weekend and see what it does.I will keep up on the updates. Any more info will be good. Thanks

Update I did get a chance to try the atf trick but ended up doing it twice. First time I put atf and let it sit over night next day started it found out that the filter water remover screw gasket was bad and was leaking when running. So 2 nd try when I got back with the new filter I used 1/2 stanadyne and atf ran it normal. Still seems like it has a cam in it you get that shake. Fri b4 this was done I was backing into the father in-laws house and during that she really has a miss.. I am thinking I may have a **** injector. After all they were from Pensacola diesel.. :( (found out there reviews after I had installed them)

XD Yea, that might be a good place to start looking. Do keep us in the loop on how it's going.
