I cringe every time I watch that clip. That truck was about go into catastrophic runaway. Thats why it lurched at the end of the pull. The driver had to dump the clutch to kill it. Having been in a diesel that would ingest large amounts of oil through the vent hose and go into runaway, I can tell you that is no fun.

It was an impressive pull though. Considering how light the truck is I would say it did well compared to the newer ones.

I bet my truck would do pretty good in one of those things with that low range in that Brownie in it now Only thing is I'd be afraid to try because of potential driveshaft carnage. I' paid a fortune for those things

I just like the fact that it pulled so good competing against newer trucks. The running away part though for sure scary! Just goes to show why a functioning CDR or RDT is necessary!

Watch around the 6:45 mark. You can hear the rpms running up and the copious amounts of smoke under no load till he gets it back in gear while standing on the brakes trying to shut down the motor.


IIRC, I think this one was debated before too.

It seems like chevys are the worst about their tie rods, that alwaya seems to happen in drag racing or pull offs.

And those pull offs were on concrete
