Cam Sensor

I have an 86 F-250 Diesel. The tach went out a couple months ago and i need a new sensor. I was wondering if anyone knows a place to get the sensor cheaper than $85.00 at the dealership.

Try a different dealer or online. Dealers are free to set their own parts prices. This is a Ford only part, don't bother with parts stores.

BTW, it's not a "cam" sensor, it actually reads the teeth on the IP gear.

They are overpricing that part. It usually sells for around $45 at dealers. Call them out on it, find another dealer, or get it on line like suggested above.

Sounds like they might be quoting you an actual "Cam Sensor" for the powerstrokes.....make sure those screwballs know it is the Tach sensor for a 7.3L/6.9L Indirect Injection engine.

i looked the other day at another dealership and they wanted 65.00 for it and i was like o ok. And that is for the tach sensor. But I've been lookin at the junk yards for one because i could get one for cheap.

Play the pricing game.Go back to the original(Y) dealer and tell them what you was quoted at Dealer X.Dealer Y will more than likely cut below them.The wheel and Deal thing is not only for New Cars......

I think the last time I bought one it was something like $60 but I get the jobber discount. Make sure you ask for a "RPM sensor" part number E5TZ-17B384-A. Don't get too worked up on the price, this is a very special part that is used by Ford only, for certain IDI applications only. It's not like lots of our other parts that are carryovers from International or gasser applications.

A junkyard sensor would be OK on a manual truck, but in an E4OD automatic, sensor failure can ruin a $2,000 transmission.
