I think I have one IDI with the hose that brings air back from the front to the filter. Not really sure why it's a good idea.

My F250 has it.

My RV can't have one due to the turbo kit. ATS made a retaining ring for the air filter since the 085 lid won't fit. Trucks have the intake box on the driver's side while vans have it on the passenger side. The 085 lid can't fit reversed and have room for the hose.

Colder air generally helps with fuel combustion and a cooler running engine, if it's not sucking in 180+ degree air from the engine bay. Up in AK, it's probably not as big of a deal for you as it would be for somebody in a hot climate.

My RV runs normal temp wise (~180-185 att 55-60mph) after replacing the fan clutch and thermostat. Before, it ran about 15-20 degrees warmer. Maybe it's the way the air gets pushed in up under the hood when driving, coupled with the flat style filter (the 70s-early 80s Porsche 911 filter) sucking air from the top, not from around the sides like an NA IDI filter.

Are you missing just the hose or are you also missing the plastic piece on the grille end? There is universal hose available.
