Aftermarket Fuel Gauge

Anyone out there have a aftermarket fuel level gauge in their 87 or newer truck? If so, which ohm reading did you go with? My understanding is the senders are 145 ohms full / 22.5 ohms empty. The closest I have found is the GM version which is 90 ohms - 0 ohms. I have tanks out of a 89 in my 85. The gauge is off and reads backwards, and I plan on ripping the stock fuel gauge out for a different set of gauges anyway.

Go to www.jcwhitney.com.

Click in the search box and type "fuel level"

When that stops, click on the upper left box that says "Datcon Instrument...."

When that page opens up, click on the blue "Item details". It will give you the Ford 78-10 ohm sending unit, and a few others. During all this, you can click on several units also that come with the aftermarket gauge.

10-78 ohm is what my 85 is.

I think there are three different ohm ranges for the IDI era that closely follow the body style year changes.

Your ohm readings sound familiar to what I've seen as common and generic for Marine gauges if you can't find anything on JC Whitney.
