A/c smell, blower motor resistor removal ????

I have a 2000 e-150 that has a must/moldy smell when the a/c is on, I read in the haynes manuel that I can take the blower motor reistor off, spray a disinfectent in the hole and it will eliminate the odor. The blower motor resistor is on the passengers side, and it looks like I may need to remove the battery along with the battery tray to get it off, any one have experiance with removal of one of these? Once I get it off do I spray in the hole and reinstall the resistor and everything else and then run the a/c, or do I leave the resistor uninstalled and install the battery and run the a/ while spraying into the hole.



Or is there some other way to get rid of the smell, I have tryed spraying disinfectants and odor eliminators into the vents inside the van and it didnt help much.
