Is there any way to check the pressure-switch on my A/C??

When I turn on the A/C, the clutch will not click in.

I can unplug the wires at the pressure-switch, jump across the plug, and the clutch will click.

I may have caused a leak in the system when changing engines; or, hopefully, the pressure-switch has gone bad.

I have searched NAPA and ADVANCE for a part number for the switch and had no success.

Does anyone know a part number/price for the switch??

Thanks.

I will have to get home and look in my records and pull the ticket on my switch.

I'd like to know the answer to this also. My AC system was recharged and AC stilll
doesn't work clutch doesn't kick in, though it will if I jump the lead with 12v.
Does system have to be recharged after replacing pressure switch?

There are two switches, one on the compressor, and one on the drier. Both can be bypassed by simply shorting the wires together, but I have had substantial trouble with the pigtails going into these. They are both available at Ford, for about $15 per. The switches are also available.

Try hotwiring these switches, and if it works, you need to get a set of guages on it. If it's all OK, then replace the switch. But, look at the wiring a little better first. This is where all my problems were.

bite the bullet and have your system pressure checked. if the clutch is engaging when the switch is bypassed, there is a very good chance your system is low on freon. prolonged running with low freon will result in a burned up compressor. the switches do fail but not as often as you want to think.

I don't see a switch on the compressor only a single wire to clutch coil. Thats the one I can hit with 12v and the clutch will kick in.
The system was recharged but don't know if it was checked for leaks. I just ASSumed it was. You know how that goes!

it's screwed into the manifold on the back of the pump, with two wires going to it.

There is definitely only one wire that goes to my compressor. I can't find any terminals that may have come unplugged nor do I see any loose wires.

There should be two wires going to the pigtail that plug into the clutch at least. Maybe they didn't put this switch on the older trucks, or yours was modified.

Maybe AC was dealer installed, doesn't really look like a mod job. Doesn't look
like factory harness either.

That's definitely not an FS-6, nor does it use the same bracketing (at least from the pics I can see). Do you have any overall shots of the engine compartment? I'd love to see a shot of the heater box assembly on the engine side...that'll help determine whether your setup is a factory one with a different compressor (something a previous owner did, maybe?) or if it's dealer-installed.

I thought that most dealer-installed setups either used the FS-6 or a York compressor...that one in the pics doesn't look like either...
