96 Ford F-250 Automatic Tranny Chatter

My 96 F250 with Automatic behidn the Powerstroke has got a chatter/grind in Park, and in gears 1-3. Once it goes into Overdrive the noise stops. Anybody have any idea what it could be? Sounds to be towards teh front of the transmission if that helps. Everythign still seems to pull fine

So the torque converter would stop when it hit overdrive? Thats the part that got me was the fact it completely quits when it hits overdrive.. Guess a triple disc TC is in the near future??

The chatter will stop when the converter locks. The internals are coming apart. You might want to look into a new converter pretty quick. When the converter quits, it can take the tranny with it.

we've had this problem . torque convertor came apart and ruined the tranny
