A friend of mine has a 91' F-250 that once in a while the transfer case will slip out of high range. It will go back in but for how long?? It has the ZF 4 speed if that matters. Not sure what transfer case is in it but it has not been changed from stock. Ant ideas? Linkage?

i would check the linkage/shifer and the cab, motor, transmision, and t case mounts... any movement in the mounts will cause funky stuff with linkages and what not... then i would check the bushings that the shifter mounts on and also check the bracket that works the shift rails for wear... if it is none of these things it almost has to be something internal

hope this helps

does it slip out while its under throttle or coasting or when he has the suspension bound up like crossing a ditch or just any time it feels like it?

jlayne, thanks for the response. I will let hime know he needs to check these things. Yes, it does slip out under throttle. I am not sure if his truck has ever seen a ditch let alone cross one.
