Well this is probably going to get jumped all over and corrected but here I go

So I traded my old Toyota for a idi. The truck is a 88 f350 regular cab long box 7.3 auto xlt
the truck is a x fire truck (brush truck) with 75k on it not bad for trading my 1100 dollar beat Toyota . So to find out more about the truck I went to a local Ford dealer and had them look it over and the guy said that its a 88 with the factory high boy package because of it being a brush truck it was ordered that tall just figured I would give you a little info on the beast now to my question why can I only get 10 MPG even if I drive like I'm in mu 90s

yea its definitly not a highboy. being a brush truck it may have 4:56 gears added, and that would definitly lower the fuel milage with those small tires. a factory f350 will clear 35s, they sit pretty high from factory.

Well I know its not a true high boy but I guess that is what they called my truck in the factorys when they where making them the advisors I talked to said they built them to fit 36 12.5 16 factor for the fire departments

I have looked at the injectors and nothing is leaking and Idid a fuel filter Friday but 10 MPG is crazy

88 is the first year of the 7.3 the automatic transmission is a c6 the front axle is a Dana 60 rear is a sterling 10.25. Your 10mpg comes from a c6 transmission with 4.10 gears in the rear. I have a 250 set up like yours that I am putting 3.55 gears in and also putting an e4od transmission in. The gears are easy to do the transmission not so much. Most chose to put a zf5 speed manual transmission insted. Any way the 3.55 gears will get you close to 15 mpg and an overdrive transmission(e4od or a zf) will get you to 20

Highboy ford = 1967-1977.5 f-250 4x4 only, and they are all "highboy's" between those years.. They have positive arched springs and sit considerably higher than the 77.5 up with had reverse arch springs, and thats where the term highboy came from.. So yes your 1988 1-ton sits realy high, but no it's not a highboy..
