1991 Potential part truck

Found a potential part truck, it was manufactured in 04/91 (is that a 911 model? It has the older OBS headlights). It's an automatic, which ideally I am looking for a parts truck with a ZF5, but this one has this little gadget...

it's an automatic but I didn't notice OD button, definitely was not in the gear shifter, so I assume it's a C6. So, what's the opinions of the C6 (rock solid auto with no overdrive) and gear vendors vs an E4OD?

IMHO the C6 is a better transmission and the OD just makes it near as good mileage wise as an E4OD you just won't have a lock up torque converter.

Look under at the trans. If you see something hanging off the tail shaft that looks like another trans then its a great vendors. Take the trans and the gv but make sure you get the dash switch and controller too. Just follow the wires. Also the speedo cable will have a gv item on it. Get that too. If you already have a C6 trans then just remove the tail shaft housing and the gv from the trans you found all this on. Be aware that there is a tail shaft connector and some shims that connects the trans to the gv. Its about 3 inches long and about 2 1/2 inches diameter. Its splined all the way thru it.

It evidently is an E4OD, I went back and looked. OD button was on the dash.

That sure is a gear vendors and its the later "P" model so its the better one but.. sure looks like its hanging off a C6 trans by the tail shaft housing adapter. I will see if I can find a C6 tail shaft housing adapter from gv and post what it looks like compared to an E4OD housing adapter.

This is the tail shaft adapter for the E4OD trans. In the pic you posted it sure looks like the tail ahaft is not bolted to the mount. Looks like someone crowbared in a C6 trans with no mount. the angle is all wrong.

Also notice the coupler that connects the trans to the gear vendors on the right. you really need that part. Don't forget it and the shims if you get this unit.

My gear vendor tailshaft housing actually says C6 on the driver side of the casting. May check there

That's a good possibility there, when the E4OD failed (it's a "when" with the E4OD), the PO might have upgraded to the C6, but still wanted OD.

That when is why I'm on the prowl for a different option. I really want a ZF5 but that has been a considerable challenge. I know the C6 is a great transmission
