I would be surprised if it got 10 with gears like that and a 4 speed. I would think that re-gearing it would be the first thing to look at after a rebuilt, properly set up carb.

I'm with Towcat on this one.
My hopped up 390 gets 12 if I drive like an old lady.... it's a 2wd F100 :)

you get a truck with an FE in it for fun, you get a diesel for economy.

Are u sure its a 390? IIRC most were 360s. Either way, PICS!!! Love old bumb sides and FEs...Have to say, i am a little jealous of finding said truck.

good looking truck. the engine is an fe for sure. course that could mean 15 different engines combinations....
360/390 most likely, put #1 to TDC. Measure #1 and #4 cylinder depth with a dowel, mark at valve cover rail. Measure with calipers.
3.5 is 360 3.78 is 390, 3.9 is 410/428
course these days a 360 block with a $1800 rotating assembly makes a 445ci... ohhh yeah.

ohh, I wouldn't worry bout the patchwork either. That inner fender costs like $80 brand new from LMC or one of them.
