    BlackStone Report Not What Expected.

I long gave up on worrying about the reports, if I did I would lose sleep and my truck would quit the next day. But, I still get the reports to see if I have oil or antifreeze in them. Here is my most recent report, gosh, I don't know why this thing is still running.... Wayne

    Air Compressor

I bought a Viair system, and it is electric. Works great, and not my 88 F-250 has a real horn that gets the respect it deserves... LOL! Wayne

    Air Compressor

I put one on the frame rail, on the side opposite the gas tanks. Air tank is in the same spot. Wayne

    NEW PAINT..BEFORE PICS....FINISHED PICS TOMMOROW.

Looks nice! Are those new head lights assemblies? If so, are they OEM or aftermarket? I'm getting ready to do my 88, and wonder if the quality of the aftermarket chrome bumpers and headlights is ok. thanks Wayne

    Hard starting

How fast is the starter spinning the engine?

    Guages

I have ISSPRO pyro, Oil pressure and water temp. The pyro has been great. The water and temp are "electrical", which means they have a sending unit and electonic box. I have replaced the oil gauge twice and the water temp twice because the sensors in on the engine went bad, and ISSPRO will not...

Who to use for oil analysis?

I use blackstone, I'd be happy to send you one of my reports if you send me an email. I was going to post it here, but it is a pdf file with my personal info etc on it. I use them for my 88 7.3, my wifes 06 Jetta TDI, and my diesel tractor. Wayne

Ebay Rebuilt IDI's Starting at 1$

Frankly, I suspect there is a problem with that auction.... I could be wrong.. but I'd make sure he really isn't from Lagos Nigeria... Not that I have anything against Lagos.... Wayne

    88 F-250 Factory tow harness

I know, I'm a dumb A__, but when I bought my truck 20 years ago, it had the factory tow package, but I lost (probably tossed out 15 years ago) the plug that connects to the brake controller and the one that goes to the trailer in the back. For the past few years, I've used my brake controller...

Daul mass flywheel to solid, what clutch to get???

We just put a LUK SMF flywheel in my 88, and while it works very well, there is very noticable gear noise when starting out. I don't like it, and frankly I wish we put the DMF in. Too late now. As Cheaper Jeeper suggested, I put in two gallons or 15W50 Mobile one, which is twice as much as you...

    Paint

Yea... I have a few friends who own body shops around here. Bottom line is, you get what you pay for! And a good paint booth costs 100k, building rent, electicity, office help, blah blah blah. I won't tell you what they expect to do on the book rates for repair... I can't comment on your maco...

    Paint

That depends.... On what you use. Dupont Chroma clear "clear" is around 170 a gallon.... Base coat is probably 140 a gallon. Variprime self etching primer is like 70 a quart... The prices of the "real" stuff like Dupont and PPG is crazy. Not to say you can't get a good base clear from...

    DMF Part #????

OK, I have a new old stock dual mass flywheel that somebody told me was for my 88 7.3. The part number on the new flywheel is F7TA-6447-CA. According to my Ford dealer, the correct number is F2TZ-6477B. Thinking maybe I have a powerstroke flywheel, I asked what the part number for a 95 7.3 was...

    LUK and Tranny noise?

Replaced my Dual mass flywheel with a LUK, and it works fine, but I do hear tranny noise now when starting out. Is this anything to be concerned about? It did not do it with the OEM flywheel. thanks Wayne

    New starter.... WOW....

I've chased a lot of starting problems in the past year.. New Beru GP's and controller, it was 20 degrees out the other day. GP came on for 13 seconds exactly. Started up in half a second. I hear there is actually a chart which shows the GP time versus temperature? Anyone ever see that? Wayne

    911 Diesel Down

I've never had the pleasure of your mess... But, would it make sense to put the cylinder to TDC, see if you can push it in the pre-cumb chamber, and then suck it out from the injector opening? The injector opening is a big hold compared to the GP. I seem to recall somebody telling me about...

    Oil tests

I use the John Deere Plus 50. Added benifit it spins over easier when cold out now too. http://www.deere.com/en_US/parts/partsinfo/oils_and_lubricants/oil_0w40.html Wayne

Hard starts and dies in 1 hour?!?!

My 88 7.3 had been hard starting for the past few years. We just put in two new batteries, all new GP's, new GP controller, new starter and new battery cables. That was a lot of $$. But, last Saturday it was 20 degrees out when I woke up and went to start it, the glow plugs came on for 13...

    Firewall reinforcement

Check your local dealer, mine had the "cheap" kit in stock and it was under ten bucks just two months ago. One of the more experienced counter man knew the part number off the top of his head. I was impressed. Ten minutes later it was installed, and it works great. Wayne

    no start; clutch problem?

Yes. And replace the bushing between the master cylinder and the arm. Wayne

    no start; clutch problem?

Have you installed the firewall brace as outlined in the Ford TSB? The firewalls flex, and they have a "regular" fix which is a plate that bolts on the clutch master cylinder from inside the cab, and for severe cases a more expensive fix which of course cost more and is harder to install. Wayne

    Isspro Oil Gage Gone Bad

I have Isspro oil pressure, coolant temp and pyro. The only one that has not had problems is the pyro, the cooland and oil pressure have had bad sending units, which are mated to the little white amplifier box. Right now, my temp sender acts funny. Wayne

    The Repair List!

Ford has two repair kits for the firewall, a simple bolt on, which is cheap, and a 150 dollar one which is for severe issues. I was surpised to find Ford still had at least the cheap on in stock. I suspect they can get the other one also if you find a motivated parts man. wayne

    Oil Change

I run synthetic in all my engines now. In my diesels, including my 88 7.3 I use John Deere Plus 50, 0W-40 oil. It's about the same price as other sythetics, and it's designed for diesel engines. Details are at http://www.deere.com/en_US/parts/partsinfo/oils_and_lubricants/oil_0w40.html...
