I wouldn’t buy anything from Rockauto. I ordered a fuel tank from them for my 2001 F350 cab & chassis and it showed up damaged. This where the fun starts as they don’t have a return dept. so I have a damaged $450 fuel tank. As far as I’m concerned Rockauto is a scam business.
If your truck is an IDI the eighth digit of the Vin will be a “M”, if it’s a IDI Turbo then the eighth digit will be a “K” and the Powerstroke will be an “F”. All three were available in 1994.
As an old (70) retired ASE certified master auto tech I have noticed that young mechanics seem to have no knowledge of anything older then 20 years. Don’t ask them how to set the gap on a point ignition system. Lol
I would bet the front axle was swapped at sometime. Since a 1989 truck is 33 years old and the ball joint front axle is a bolt in. If the front axle came out of a 92 or 93 the front brakes are the same as a 1989. Ford changed the front brakes in 1994 so something to look out for when doing the...
Since it appears the truck in question sold, what engine it had is a moot point. 1994 was a Chang over year with three different 7.3 engines available. The 7.3 IDI Vin “M”, the 7.3 IDI turbo Vin “K” and finally the 7.3 Powerstroke Vin “F” supposedly as a mid year availability which doesn’t...
Like a previous poster said this thread seems to be about a 1991 and older column. Be aware 92 up is completely different as it’s Ford modular column with its own set of problems.
A problem I have seen here in Minnesota is the left front cab mount being rusted enough for the cab to drop down on the steering shaft and causing binding on the steering shaft. You can tell this is the problem by looking at the gap between the door & fender. If the gap is wider at the bottom...
I won’t ever buy anything from rock auto again. I bought a fuel tank for my 2001 F350 cab & chassis and I received a banged up tank. Rock auto has no one to handle returns. I paid $425. For this damage tank. Cheap prices don’t do you any good when you get junk.
I have been putting grease or anti- seize on lug nuts & studs for over 40 years. Here in Minnesota the land of salt & rust it’s a necessity. And yes during my 30 year career as a ASE certified master Auto Technician I worked at a couple Goodyear stores. I have heard all the old wife’s tales...
After seeing a pic of the van on his profile he has a 1983 thru 1991 cube van. The simplistic statement that with a cutting torch you can put anything into anything maybe true but it won’t be drivable. I stand by my original statement that a IDI won’t fit in a 1969 thru 1974 van engine...
I’m surprised that no one caught this but a 1969 Econoline didn’t come with a diesel nor is there room for one. I’m sure it’s a typo & he meant 89 or so.
