Fluid type in 1989 ZF5 and transfer case lubricant

I'll second Redline MTL for the ZF5, Shifts great cold and hot. I got it at Napa Auto parts on the shelf. I have a SMF and there is a bit of rollover noise at idle but not too bad.

    Another zf5 swap

You'll be so happy once this swap is done. I went from C6 to T-19 then to S5-47 ZF5. Drove so much better with the ZF than either of the previous setups. I used the T-19 Diesel flywheel for the ZF5. I cant speak for the Gasser clutch compatibility. Only complaint is the gear rollover noise in...

Slide in camper owners: what's your mpg?

I took a 2500 mile trip with my truck a few summers ago, It was far more convenient than towing my trailer or driving a motorhome in my opinion. 4x4 6.9 IDI w/ATS turbo and ZF5, I was getting 12-14mpg, 2200lbs camper weight. If you're looking for pros and cons. Here was my thought process vs a...

Smoke coming from defrost vents in dash

My vote is the heater core too. However I've had leaves get into the heater fan resistors and when the fan speed was on the lowest setting started to burn the old dead leaves and started to smolder and smoke. Just takes 2 screws to pull the resistors from the heater box to make sure.

6.9L Liquid to Air Intercooler Install

Here are the cad files for the intake adapter. The only part not here is the tubing that was pressed in the center and welded. There is a recess on the underside of the bottom part for an oring to seal against the manifold in case you are wondering why there is a step on the I.D.. I also used...

6.9L Liquid to Air Intercooler Install

The air/air works well, but on these old slant nose trucks there is no room for the big air intercoolers unless you want to ditch the a/c condenser.

6.9L Liquid to Air Intercooler Install

Temp Gauges and threaded thermistors were on ebay. I 3d printed the holder and just 3M taped it to the dash. I have the cad file of that too if someone wants it.

6.9L Liquid to Air Intercooler Install

About 450ish. 300 for the kit, but I ended up not using the electric fan that comes with the kit and another 150 or so in tubing, hose, elbows and nice t-bolt clamps. Here's a pic of temp display when driving on the freeway with the trailer, a/c on, and 110 outside. And that's brake vac not boost.

6.9L Liquid to Air Intercooler Install

I'm new to this forum but after thinking about doing this upgrade for the last couple of years I wanted to share the results. I often tow a 21ft Toy hauler that weighs somewhere around 6500 lbs loaded. Going over the Sierra mountains and the long grades I felt like the engine would heat soak and...

    Idi transmission swap

Correct, I didn't mean a literal top speed like at 3600 rpm but a speed at which the rpm was reasonable sounding for long periods of time.

    Idi transmission swap

I swapped my '85 F250 from the automatic to a 4 speed several years ago. The shifter in the truck from the old trans is left in park forever, so the truck will start anytime. It's helpful to be able to start the truck in gear in case of the clutch line melting or failed master or slave you would...
