    IDI block = IDIT block

I have a TIDI flex plate if anyone needs, for the shipping charge. Came out of an TIDI-automatic (obviously) but the engine is going with a zf5, so I don’t need the flex plate.

    using xylene

Be aware that xylene can eat some rubber. It’s not near as bad as acetone, but I think they’re in the same family. The dilution rate for a fuel additive will negate that problem, but thinning wmo will obviously be a much higher concentration. I’m not saying don’t do it; just keep an eye on any...

Good idea, I’ll check with Wes. And thanks for the other tips!

Piston oil squirters- where get ‘em??

This is what they look like, btw. They spray the bottom of each piston for cooling and pin lubrication. One of the knowledgeable regulars (IDIBRONCO?? Maybe? I don’t recall who...) mentioned the necessity of making sure these are thoroughly cleaned (as he learned the hard way). So I made sure...

Piston oil squirters- where get ‘em??

“FROM THE UNDERBELLY OF YOUR BLOCK!!” Yea, no kiddin. Can’t find mine!!:dunno:cry: I remember the guy at the machine shop showing them to me when I went to pick up my components, but now they’re nowhere to be found!? MAYBE they’ll turn up, but I can’t wait forever... Anyone know a source for...

    Air-water CAC/intercooler on an IDI?

As cool as EVERYTHING you said is, what surprised me is 140,000mi on a 3 year old truck IN 1974!?! NO ONE drove a non-commercial vehicle that much then. What were they doing?! And YES, that’s a sweet truck! Nice work in maintaining it!

    Air to Water Intercooler

Agreed. With the setup you’re discussing It’s doubtful you could measure any increase in lag, much less notice it. Compared to a front mounted air-air you’re probably adding less than half the additional intake plumbing volume. Maybe only a third. My sig IH4900 uses 5-7’ of 3-3.5”...

How do y’all like to shift your ZF5’s?

THIS is a big part of what makes OILBURNERS the best! How often do you hear people civilly explain themselves and apologize anymore? Especially on the internet?! Many forums are appalling! Downright MEAN. Misunderstandings ARE going to happen, and it’s wonderful being in a community of adults...

How do y’all like to shift your ZF5’s?

or a zf5-s47 + GV/US Gear OD:). Still issues with the synchros, but a wider gear range with 10 forward gears. I assume it would be a pain setting one up with a 4x4, but it would be sweet! The split ratios would be welcome pulling a hill while loaded- keep the rpm’s in the sweet spot. I would...

How do y’all like to shift your ZF5’s?

I think what jrollf meant is that the OP doesn’t have a custom tranny. I don’t think it was a denial of your setup, or your ability to accomplish it. And that does sound like a lot of painstaking work! I would end up with a tranny case, a few buckets of parts, and more stuff to step over in my...

    Egt gauge

They make dual egt gauges. It’d simplify mounting and the needles are side by side; differences would be obvious at a glance. https://hewittindustries.com/product/010-301/ Like chillman88 mentioned, a probe located in each exhaust manifold would also help indicate or diagnose engine issues. If...

    Re-Torquing Head Bolts

Agreed that 180-200* “coolant” would be COUNTERproductive until boost was 15psi or higher. HOWEVER... As someone previously described, sending coolant from the pump to an auxiliary cooler/radiator THEN to the Charge Air Cooler seems a viable plan. This auxiliary circuit wouldn’t need nearly the...

    Re-Torquing Head Bolts

These are the issues I’m trying to navigate in deciding how to do an air/water setup for my turbo IDI f250. Eliminating the auxiliary water pump and related wiring, etc. seems simpler. Better?? Please keep us posted on your findings and progress!

    Re-Torquing Head Bolts

In my sig IH4900 I used a 4-prong BBQ thermometer to check ambient, post turbo and post charge air cooler (air to air) temperatures. 10*/1 lb of boost is ballpark for heat added, the CAC removes 85-90% of the added heat when above about 40mph. So, 70* day, 25 lb boost = about 320* post turbo...

What's a good aftermarket gauge cluster?

For the gauges themselves you might look at Hewitt Industries. According to their website The company started in 1955, making gauges in the USA, and still make everything right here. They claim to be the originators of EGT gauges. Their thermocouples have a lifetime warranty. They do seem to be...

    SMF bolt size?? Sources?

I received a reply (Quickly! Good customer service! Thanks, Bobby Godwin!) from Perfection HyTest , the manufacturer of my flywheel. It sounds like they spec the same bolt as does Luk. Here is their spec: 3/8-16 Length 2.125” Grade 8 THREAD LENGTH =1.28” with Loctite threadlock patch

    SMF bolt size?? Sources?

That’s good to know about the washers. Don’t see why that wouldn’t work. They’ll definitely be easier to find. Thanks! With. Russ’ bolts and some washers I should be set! And fwiw, according to one thread that included a pic of the bolt, the SMF bolts are 2-1/8” long (including 1-1/4”...

    SMF bolt size?? Sources?

The machine shop is finally ready to balance the rotating assembly for my 7.3 IDIT! But they lost the (9?) bolts and spacer for bolting the flywheel to the crank. Exactly what bolts do I need for a Single Mass Flywheel, and where can I get them? And where can I get the thin metal spacer? In...

    HP/Torque- When things start breaking...

Justin did a nice physical/dimensional comparison of the 3 rods (na, turbo and psd)-search Connecting Rods: 6.9/7.3 NA vs. IDIT vs. 94-00 PSD forged Each rod is significantly beefier than it's predecessor. The psd rod is also the only one that’s forged. That being said, I doubt I’ll ever find...
