    Got one! '97 12valve - at last.

Just got back from a 400km trip with the 5th wheel. At 100km got 18.5mpg (imperial), very pleased. Level going with very slight tailwind, trailer 7,000lbs + or -. Some hills, didn't pull as good as the old turbo/6.9 so it looks like fuel plate and 4" exhaust. I thought it would have more on the...

    Got one! '97 12valve - at last.

I had to buy the truck with a slide-in camper as a package. Old lad wouldn't split it. I split it and sold the camper, when the smoke cleared I had $8,500 in the truck. A lot for an old truck but it's the very one I was looking for. Good luck on your search.

DSS done. KDP finished today. You gotta love these sites. My pin was out about 3/16" when it got pushed back it went in 1/8" below flush. So doing this job was worth it. Who knows it might have stayed put till something else blew up but then again maybe not - worth the peace of mind. I got...

    gauges quit need help

Fuse it was, #12. Interesting the Owner's Manual and the Service Manual do not list a fuse for dash gauges. I took a look at the schematic and the gauges are on the same fuse as the AIR BAG, go figure. #12 is labeled Air Bag but runs your gauges and warning lights on the dash. I supose DC made a...

    gauges quit need help

I started my '97 auto this morning fine. All gauges worked well for about 10-20 seconds. Then, they all quit at the same time. Tac, oil pressure, engine temp and volt meter now not working. Could it be a connection, but where and is their a common well know cause for this. Ken

    Got one! '97 12valve - at last.

Ya, I hear ya on the seal. I'm ordering the combo kit from TST, 230/605 plate and KDP kit (with seal). Say, how big a hole do you need to gut the cat? I was thinkin' spin it on the pipes, use a hole saw, let the marblels fall out, and patch it and spin it back with the hole on top. With...

    Got one! '97 12valve - at last.

DSS on its way, ordered it today. I measured the track bar on the truck and it is larger than stock so someone had fingers in it. I see the KDP kits don't come with a gasket, just RTV - what's best? Also, I found the TST site, tells all about fuel plate and KDP, great resource. Should...

Travis: Thanks for the tip on the column. I'll check it. I'm new to Cummins but not Dodge. I drove gas Dodge for 25yrs and it was always said that when you die you will go straight to heaven because you suffered enough on earth driving Dodge. I can say this because I walked the walk. Anyhow...

    All 5 speeds bad?

I'm lookin' at a 95 5speed 4x4 and read a lot about the 5 speed tranny. Are all 5 speeds doomed to a loose fifth gear nut and backyard fixes or is there a for sure pre failure fix? This truck has about 150 k miles on it.

Mexico fender bender! E and F axel swap?

Thanks for the info all. It looked worse than it was. The fender was pushed in a little but the force was taken up by the edge of the bumper - lucky. When I looked at it at first and for the first few days I couldn't get it on a level spot. When I got it on some flat it was not bent. Drives okay...

Mexico fender bender! E and F axel swap?

Hola: Had a little fender bender in Mexico. Pushed in the drivers fender just above the bumper and maybe bent the front axel. Drivers tire tilts in a little, not too bad and drives okay for the trip north. My question is: is the F series axel able to replace an E series axel on my E350? I got...

    No start, crankie, crankie, crankie?

He says he gets fuel pressure at injector pump and electric lift pump works but little pressure or flow at injectors when cranking engine. If it is lack of fuel what would cause it to quit on the road? IP?

    No start, crankie, crankie, crankie?

To the fine folks in Cummins Land: I need a little help here. A very good friend of mine has a '99 Dodge auto, 4x4 that won't start. He asked me about it but I'm too far down that 'other road ' to help. He's not a computer type. Ran fine then shut down to go into a store, hard start, then...

Tips for installing a new Injector kit?

I just finished kit install. You might enjoy a smoother engine idle. Mine ran much smoother after the kit install. Good luck. I used vasoline to lube the rings and caps.

un hooking the wastgate from the turbo

I met an old lad in Florida that spliced a short piece of copper pipe into the hose. The copper pipe had a small hole drilled in its side (he had to fiddle with hole size to get it right) it reduced the vacuum applied to the diaphragm and increased boost psi.

    Radiator size for 6.9L

Source Ford rad problems: largest rad repair shop in area, owners experience since Ford used IH. Look at your upper tank, see if it is pushed out on the inside of top tank near solder joint. It shoutd be flat not convex. I have two. If so, they will leak soon, along that seam. You can solder...

    Radiator size for 6.9L

The issue with rads on these trucks is not enough tubes to take the large flow from the waterpump. Orignial rads did not have enough tubes so the pressure built up in the upper tank causing the seams on the upper tank to leak. Ford at first used a restricted flow thermostate to cut the flow rate...

    buying 85 E-350, 6.9, 18k miles

FYI When I bought a parts truck it had only 65,000 miles. It was a township truck and did have an hour meter on it. I took out the meter, reset it to 0 and put it on a tractor. It read over 8,000 hrs, so the idle factor is very real.

lift pump replacement at 60k miles?

Took the cure on trailers in Mexico. We will take the 11 1/2' Shasta. Sure is nice to stop anytime and park in a car space. We bought it for the Alaska trip and were going to sell it but liked it too much - good thing too, it's just the thing for Mexico this winter. Put on new return lines, o...

lift pump replacement at 60k miles?

Nice to hear from a high mile user. I always work on the if it ain't broke don't fix it. However, when the wind blows and the snow flies it's no time to wrench. I think I'll leave well enough alone and take the spare and an electric I've got. The old girl hasn't made me walk yet. But, never...
