I guess my only problem is that I wish I had an extra $1000 sitting around to invest in a few barrels of gasoline and diesel for blending in winter here in North Carolina- since I"m also expecting that i'ts going to go through the roof again soon.
Thanks hheynow. The timing of the downturn is actually fine for me- I'm super sick these days so I couldn't be working (teaching) much anyway. I'm teaching about once every 3 weeks (and all the work in between) so it's a manageable schedule for me to keep up with things, sorta..
wow, that's pretty crazy. Right now we've got a total lull in interest in this stuff because of impending winter and low gas prices, so it sucks that you can't get any even when fewer people are interested.
The thing I remember hearing aobut Denver is that there's an oil collector who's not...

Hey guys,
My 6.5 van has an squealing noise that I think is coming from the idler pulley up there in the serpentine belt. I don't have the manual for this engine yet and I'm trying to order the part online before I go tearing it apart. A few friends have assured me that it's a common failure...
I'm teaching two biodiesel homebrewing classes in Ft Lauderdale Florida this weekend-
Friday Dec 1 (shorter version of weekend class, slightly less hands-on than weekend class)
Sat-Sun Dec 2-3 (more hands-on, more comprehensive class covering more of the chemistry and troubleshooting...
Thanks for the offer! I'll be driving with Matt from Piedmont Biofuels (www.biofuels.coop) who is also teaching some kind of a presentation for a group of farmers in the Florida panhandle at the same time, and I think I"m on his schedule and he'll be almost to his destination at that point, so...
Yep, everyone's busy this time of year- I only scheduled these because originally I thought a bunch of us were going to do a conference about an industry issue (ie not a class) this fall in DC- and we all decided we were too busy to pull that one off, so I got stuck with just my mini-tour around...
Brrrr, not this winter. I'm planning a tour throughout the country in the late spring, though, and I"m sure I'll be back to Chambersburg PA again at that point (may? June?)- I did a class there in September.

Yep, I"ve seen a few forums attempt an 'anything goes' battlegrounds, and it often ends up backfiring like it did here- people can't bear to leave the battling in that section usually.
Mark
SO I've been away for a while... did you guys get rid of the battlegrounds and the nudie pictures, or is it just restricted to people with a certain post count? Not that I want to flame anybody or anything, just curious what you decided when the BG was kinda getting out of control a while back...
Hey, that fixed it! Thanks!
The particular problem I was having was that I was able to log in, but I couldnt post, and of course couldn't send PM's to the moderators (I didn't look very far to see if any of y'alls addresses were posted anywhere though).

Here's a cheezy scale that you can make if you don't have a gram balance. It's only for 1-liter batches, but it works in a pinch. The directions for making it and how it works are here:

Here's a view of the gear I use for small batches, a bit cheaper than Ford Forgotton's:
The majority of this gear is for the titration- the test of the used oil which tells you how much lye to use- and for making a 1-liter batch of biodiesel. The 'reactor' is the juice bottle on the...
