    Spongy brakes after replacing shoes

The new drums were not cut. I didn't think that they would need to be.

    Spongy brakes after replacing shoes

The drums are brand new. I went that route instead of getting the old ones cut, since rock auto had a good price on new motorcraft drums. Also, the rubber lines feel firm to me.

    Spongy brakes after replacing shoes

The light doesn't come on at all. I have seen it come on in the past like when the master cylinder failed.

    Spongy brakes after replacing shoes

I didn't have the engine running while bleeding the brakes. The brakes were bled multiple times, and the fluid coming out is clear when I finished. The whole thing with the engine running was just so I could confirm that when the brake pedal was applied that the rear brakes were actually...

    Spongy brakes after replacing shoes

A few weeks ago, I replaced the rear shoes (in attempt to fix the e-brake issue that I was having: http://www.oilburners.net/forums/showthread.php?76155-Drum-brake-question-Why-would-this-happen). After replacing the shoes, I noticed a big decrease in stopping power and a general spongy feeling...

Doing a rear brake job? READ THIS!

I just wanted to say that I purchased brand new Motorcraft shoes, installed them, and still had the exact same issue of that lever riding on top of the metal on the shoe. I was actually messing around with this a bit this evening to no avail. It frustrates me that not even OEM shoes allow the...

Doing a rear brake job? READ THIS!

This is the exact same problem that I noticed on my truck recently resulting in the parking brake not working and from the looks of things the shoes were probably dragging.

    What's it worth

If you're looking for a truck that's cheap to maintain, reliable and doesn't require monthly payments, its value is priceless. But don't tell your friend that. :sly

Drum brake question - Why would this happen?

I ordered new Motorcraft shoes for $36. I noticed on rockauto how many "economy" shoes are being sold. Given how cheap they are, I understand why people buy them. I didn't install the shoes on the truck currently so who knows where they came from

Drum brake question - Why would this happen?

Well, after struggling with this all day, I decided that I will just replace the shoes. It is hard to see from the pics, but the parking brake mechanism isn't actuating the shoes at all. The parking brake itself and cables are fine, it's just that the point of contact on both shoes is so worn...

Drum brake question - Why would this happen?

It might not be quite clear in the pics, but there is a groove that the anchor pin plate is supposed to sit in. In one pic, it is in the groove, in the other pic, it came out of the groove and was sitting on top of the metal tabs on one of the shoes. This was making it so that applying the...

Drum brake question - Why would this happen?

I have been struggling with the parking brake not holding for some time and I kept thinking that the brakes weren't adjusted right. After adjusting the shoes and the cable tension, it was still a no-go. Then I found this: Notice how the anchor pin plate (I think that is what it's called) is not...

So what did you do with your truck today?

Installed a Tekonsha P3 and redid all the trailer wiring today. I'm planning on getting a 5th wheel when I find something that is cheap and is worth the money. Just need to figure out why my backup lights aren't working...

    Dipstick tube

I was able to figure out where the dipstick tube is supposed to go. The exhaust manifold was blocking my view but I can see underneath, above the starter where it goes, the trick is going to be getting it in there without getting it all greasy. Probably best to remove the starter, clean up the...

Thanks for the responses guys. I will try to get a picture later of where the tube goes in.

    Dipstick tube

I removed the passenger side valve cover today to replace the valve cover gasket and the dipstick tube came out. It seemed like it was a bit loose already, but I'm not sure how it is mounted to the block. I can't see the hole that it came out of very well (I probably need to get a borescope)...

1990 F350 7.3 LEAKING AT TOP OF INJECTOR/S Losing my mind on this ....

Make sure that you didn't cross-thread any of the hard lines onto the injectors. I accidentally did that on one of the flare nuts and it actually cracked, creating a leak that I couldn't see at first. Eventually I noticed the crack. Never again will I make that mistake.

    2016 Rally Voting Thread

I voted for Missouri. Since I live in California, that would be the most practical. I would really like to attend one of these gatherings, and if one ended up being that close, it would be all the more reason to attend.

    What's a good 5th wheel hitch?

Any idea what year those frame mounts were meant for?

    What's a good 5th wheel hitch?

Thanks for the advice. The e trailer site has a lot of useful info. It seems like the older Fords would need the "universal" rail kits.

    What's a good 5th wheel hitch?

Hey guys, I've been hoping to get a 5th wheel, so I can do some traveling. I keep seeing 5th wheels on craigslist that look like something I might like, but there is one problem, I need a 5th wheel hitch. I've been looking at some hitches, it seems like Reese and Curt pop up a lot. Does...
