    Allison at 545

Biggest issue I have with the 545 is the 400ft/lb torque limit. Of course that is with it installed in a MDT so it might work out ok in a lighter pickup truck. Me? I'd be looking for something better...

    pictures of duallie beds??

Since there is room to get the fasteners in to hold the flares on there is room to get the coating of your choice in there too. :) Nick

    pictures of duallie beds??

Way back in post #8 I said I've done what the OP wants to do. Cut about 4" outside of the flares on a dually bed. Cut both the inside skin and the outside skin and along the floor next to the inner skin. Bring those pieces home from where ever you cut them and lay them on the floor with the...

    pictures of duallie beds??

I cut the dually flare areas off the side of a junkyard dually bed (that was junk otherwise) and welded them into a good SRW bed from my parents totaled F150. Yes, I spent a good 3 days doing the work and it still needs to be finished (I just rattle canned the bare metal to slow down the rust)...

    Winterization begins!!!

You might check under Bronco's as well. From diggin around on Rock Auto's website the yoke PN's were the same IIRC F350 and rear Bronco. I have a rear Bronco driveshaft for the front of my converted F250 with the yoke but I have not tried it yet to see if it will work. Been thinkin it's...

    4 Inch Exhaust Build Plan

Carbon steel wire bonds to stainless pipe just fine BTDT...the weld will rust is the only issue. Since this is exhaust and not structural welding that it's not "right" isn't a problem. Nick

Are the rear brakes 2.5" or 3" on a sterling?

I thought it went more like not dually was 2.5" and dually axle got 3". Least that's how my trucks have been... Nick

    Ranger III Overdrive on CL

I shipped mine to a guy in GA from MA via UPS. Just make sure you drain the oil and have something in the box to absorb any leaks. Plus the usual pack it in a sturdy box with plenty of filler... Nick

    Ranger III Overdrive on CL

Had a Ranger in my Toyota Land Cruiser behind a SBC 350. I don't recall it being any louder than anything else on that truck. Nick

    Been busy!!

Where did you get the rebuild parts from? I've got 400K+ miles on my ZF5 now. I'm sure it could use a freshing up here soon... Thanks, Nick

Whats that stuff between the fuel tank and frame

I chopped up an old inner tube to replace that goop when I repaired/painted the tanks on my truck. If that don't work out I'll try some dynomat like stuff I have lying around... Nick

    ranger overdrive???

Had a Ranger OD in my '77 Land Cruiser behind a Chevy 350. Ran it for 30K miles with no issues other than some leaking between the Ranger and the transmission. Reglued that and it worked fine. I'd buy one again... Nick

how many miles does your idi have?

Up to 420,000 at least. Watched the ODO roll 399,999 to....300,000.:dunno But doesn't burn oil (valve covers leak a couple quarts in 3k miles) and runs pretty good all things considered. I'd drive it to CA tomorrow...if someone else is buying the fuel. :D Nick

    Block replacement

If you can wait until the end of June I'll have a nice running IDI available...and I live just over the line in IN. Gotta haul a race car to Summit Point, WV middle of June then the IDI comes out for a 24v Cummins.:sly The IDI is a good motor but I'm lookin' for more.:D Nick

After some investigating last night, I have a few ?'s with pictures...

The dampness under the master cylinder is leaking brake fluid. Means the master cylinder is on the way out. From what I see I'd fix the belt and brake master then worry about the other stuff. I'd hunt down an aluminum brake master to replace the cast iron part on there now. Less internal...

    nv4500 speedo cable??

No speedo cables at all. The sensor in the rear diff handles the speedo function in place of the cable. Makes it easy to put whatever trans you want into the truck. ;Sweet Nick

    intercooler for cummins swap?

According to a couple threads I found cruising other diesel sites yes the 6.0 intercooler will work. I can't find those threads now of course... The 6.0 IC requires that you have the narrow Ford diesel radiator (I've seen it commonly refered to as a 31" radiator vs. the 37"...

    intercooler for cummins swap?

FWIW - I found an intercooler for a 2004 Ford F250 on www.car-part.com for $210 from a local wrecking yard. Looked all over Ebay and couldn't beat that price once I paid shipping. I've seen a few other folks use this intercooler successfully as part of a Cummins swap so I figured to give it a...

    electric vacuum pump

I'm using an electric vacuum pump from the same truck ('99 and newer PSD...) I stole the hydroboost from. Working fine for a couple years now. Nick

    Brakes

I would be looking at the "soup can" vacuum reservoirs. 3 of the 5 Ford trucks the family owns had cans with holes rusted through them. Vacuum leaks mean poor brakes, no cruise control and funky HVAC control functions. Another issue I ran into was a failed rear antilock brake valve. Brakes...

    Zf6

Could you explain why the NV4500 is better than a ZF5 or ZF6? I hear of plenty NV4500's that fail but very few failed ZF series transmissions... Thanks, Nick

Popping in rear end at low speed

Someone could have also installed a locking diff like a Detroit or Lockrite. Those make a popping/clackclackclack noise when turning at low speed... They'll even go BANG once in awhile. Alarming but yet normal behavior; IF that's what is in the diff. Pull the cover and take/post a picture...
