    MOUNTAIN ROAD TRIP Preparation!

Ah I went by the specs on Nick’s website, https://www.nickpisca.com/diesel/engine/7-3-idi-torque-specs-and-bolt-dimensions-with-images/ Regardless it seemed to work! :)

    MOUNTAIN ROAD TRIP Preparation!

Okay cool I’ll try to retorque the head bolts. However since I’m in a van, I can only really access the ones at the rear of the engine, through the dog house. Is it okay to only torque down a few? Also back off the bolt then torque back down correct? If not I’ll throw a tab or two into my...

    MOUNTAIN ROAD TRIP Preparation!

New Bosch 80034 glow plugs are working great. The smaller spades are not ideal, but extra crimp on the terminals and they are tight. Getting 130amps peak on initiation, then after about 10 seconds drops to 70amps on the glow plugs. Starts right up at -15C here in Toronto, no heater. Noticed...

    MOUNTAIN ROAD TRIP Preparation!

Weird I edited that post to say I took my harness out last night and found 3 dirty connections, giving resistance to 3 plugs about an extra 0.2-0.8ohms depending on the multimeter. So 3 plugs with more resistance, and a 4th not plugged in leaving the other 4 exposed to full voltage longer, and...

    MOUNTAIN ROAD TRIP Preparation!

Last two sets were from Ford dealership in BC. Seemed legit Ah hmm good thinking actually. I did run new wires from relay back to engine back. But spliced in the old connectors. (Side of the road repair) They seem okay, maybe a little dirty / greasy. I’ll give them a good clean and any way to...

Is it a problem to have the positive and negative cables run side by side with no air gap?

Here in Toronto I we have Canada Welding Supply. Got “ToughFlex” welding cable by Kalas. 4/0 6’, 2/0 16’ all for $190 CND. Thanks for the all the insight! I’m fairly confident on the cable I bought, EDPM Class K wire, plus no refunds. I’ll be sure to run it securely. My van has a few hangers...

Is it a problem to have the positive and negative cables run side by side with no air gap?

Old thread, but this is what I've been over thinking recently... I'm currently replacing all my battery cables in my van. All started with taking out batteries for warranty, then replace the DC-DC charger on my cable, finding good deals on welding cable, and now have ripped all the 40 year old...

FS: 1989 E350 extended boxy 7.3 E4OD with Banks turbo

Glad you found a buyer! Just saw the ad, tempted to have as a second van. Planning to install a 1st Gen Banks kit I picked up. Do you happen to have a manual for a VAN 1st Gen Banks Turbo installation? Also, on the turbo UP pipe, is the pipe crimped flat around the dog house wall? It seems...

Hard Start - Glow Plugs / Air Intrusion Help!

Glow plugs zd-28 are doing great so far. Warmed up ever since, no -20 starts yet. Doing 8-10 seconds and turns right over. Hardline repair seems to be great, still having priming loss overnight. Facet priming pumps flushing the system of air while I run the glow plugs. Works great. Snows been...

Oh yeah? That maybe worth trying and something I could do on the road! And to clarify, add the modifier a little at a time until any chirping stops?

Looking at Diff Lockers & LSD

Hey y’all, been looking into lockers my self. Spinning lots of tyres with my factory Dana 60 “limited slip” in the snow the last few weeks. Would rebuilding the clutches help or be worth the time and money? Parts are cheapish If not I’ll be saving up for Detroit Locker or TrueTrac.

Hard Start - Glow Plugs / Air Intrusion Help!

First round of Glow Plugs was from RA. Next two have been Motorcraft from the dealer. Luckily they warranted my last batch. Didn’t explain the push button, and played dumb. I did an open air test on one of my plugs to visualize the glow time. Seems like cherry red is 10-15 seconds. I did a...

Hard Start - Glow Plugs / Air Intrusion Help!

@The_Josh_Bear @Old Goat So! My glow plugs are again pouched!! Had another hard start this morning. Last week I’ve been bleeding my schrader valve, while my partner cranks the engine over. And has been starting great. 5 seconds on 10 second off. About 2-3 cycles. Now looks like the plugs...

Hard Start - Glow Plugs / Air Intrusion Help!

Regarding my GLOW PLUGS. I spent a day in the dealers parking lot. A very friendly time actually. The service manager was very available to help me solve why my plugs were burning out so quickly. The night before I installed 4 new Bosch plugs drove 15 mins to the dealer. And in the morning they...

Hard Start - Glow Plugs / Air Intrusion Help!

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. Maybe I miss spoke, the hard line to the Injectors are threading on OK! It was just the low pressure hardline from the fuel filter to the IP, I believe “Inlet” side of the pump. The brass connector was stripped / crushed, and trying for ever to line it back...

Hard Start - Glow Plugs / Air Intrusion Help!

Thanks for the reply!! Got all my return lines back together… plenty of grease on the caps, new o-rings. I’ll consider a e-pump to prime if I find it’s still draining air some where. Gonna be -20c next week or two so rather have something that starts for now. damn is the hard lines a pain in...

Hard Start - Glow Plugs / Air Intrusion Help!

tried to start again this morning, and only thing that cranked it over was some starter fluid. Pulled my doghouse, checked the resistance on my NEW ZD-28 plugs and all of them are reading 40ohms of resistance or no continuity…. How would they all be pouched? I have 5 spare Bosch I may throw...

Hard Start - Glow Plugs / Air Intrusion Help!

I have a feeling it’s the injection pump as well. I’ll pull my dog house today and look for leaks maybe swap the olives if I can find one in town here in Rocky Mountain Alberta. Cut some fuel hose maybe? Can air back track up thru the injection pump in to the filter housing? Van was starting...
