I have the exact same question; my Luk SMF kit throwout was damaged upon arrival, the the pilot bearing was destroyed. Got a new pilot and installed it.
I ordered a new SKF throwout bearing and it's substantially larger than the Luk. Looks like that won't be an issue, but if anyone has any...
Might not see cracks just with a visual inspection. I bought a lightly used Magnaflux yoke and some powder and magnafluxed the heads and block. One engine wasn't running when I tore it down and the other one was. The running engine had a small crack in between two valves one head and I ended...
Your build sounds a lot like mine. Just finished assembling the short block; see my signature for a link to my YT channel with a video on the assembly. Top end video coming up soon.
FYI - I disassembled a 7.3 IDI-T and found a bunch of cracked pistons as well (details in Episode 3 of...
Exactly! I was trying to be polite, but it wasn't easy.
Yeah, I was trying to use as little force as necessary, but not easy to do without the dead blow.
Thanks
Anyone know what these o-rings are for? They came with my gasket/rebuild kit. I'm finishing up a rebuild on a S-47 4x4, and I don't recall seeing these on the disassembly.
Looks like the two thin ones are for the shifter, but not sure on the other 3.
Thanks
Tried to install a FL1995-A on my 7.3 IDI just now and wouldn't work because of crossmember clearance, or lack thereof. However, the trans isn't installed yet, so the engine is tilted down in the back. Once I get the trans in, I should be good.
7.3 is in.
Had to use the 1 ton slot on the cherry picker; at the 1/2 ton setting, it was about to tip over.
Was also working on cracked concrete, so once I got the engine to the right height, I had to use my daily driver to pull the truck under it.
Motor mount bolts took me at least an...
Got the bolts in from McMaster-Carr today. Just took two days for them to get here. They were about 1/32" too long, so I touched them up a bit on the grinder.
Finished the rebuild of the 7.3. It's going in my 87 cc drw 4x4 project truck. Truck doesn't have core support, so I won't have to lift too high.
My concern is how heavy the engine/trans combo is together. I have a newer cherry picker and I know it will lift it all, but it will be difficult...
Well, I can't claim credit for the coffee cans. Those came with a bunch of 1970's C3 Corvette parts that I picked up for $1500. Been selling stuff off in order to pay for the 7.3 build.
Cleaning/degreasing/wire brushing/sandblasting and painting stuff seems like all I do these days, but it's getting closer to being ready to install. Also installed some of Justin's Stage 1 injectors.
