    speeds while towing

No, the fan rarely engages. I replaced the first fan clutch thinking it was worn out, the replacement is the same. If I ever replace the fan again it'll be with a clutch that engages at a lower temperature.

    speeds while towing

My 1993 stock 7.3 IDI / 4.10 / E4OD towing a 7,000 lb. travel trailer will do 80 on flat ground with no headwind. Grades are another story; usually about 40-45. The grade west of Buffalo Wyoming, maybe 25mph.

An IDI in very remote areas, for critical jobs?

I use my '93 IDI to tow a travel trailer 1,000 miles into Mexico. I don't speak Spanish, but I know that if something goes wrong I can most likely fix it or find someone who can. With electronic diesels, once it quits, you're walking.

    fuel heater help

Other than getting it to stop leaking, the fuel heater is too small and poorly placed to do any good heating the fuel. The earlier one on the 6.9 fuel line was better at helping with gelled fuel.

    Almost cried watching this.....

$24,000 per vehicle- that's what it cost for the cash for clunkers program. http://money.cnn.com/2009/10/28/autos/clunkers_analysis/index.htm I heard a Volvo on you tube that had the oil drained and the silica administered - what a shame, what a waste. That Volvo is better than the car I...

    headlight adjuster gearbox

I replaced my headlights with an cheap ebay set. The lights themselves are OK but the up/down 90 degree gearbox was junk. I've looked online for a source for the gearbox or adjuster only (without a new headlight) with no luck. Any ideas?

    Rear Tank Replacement

It's a real bear trying to hook up those fuel & return lines with very little clearance and no visibility - other than that it's not a bad job.

Losing a caliper pin: is that common?

I found one on my driveway just before leaving for a 7,000 mile round trip to Mexico. The original pins lasted 15 years/240K miles, I replaced all 4 - they're not all that expensive considering the job they do.

    Quick Help Needed- Dropping Tanks

Dropping the tanks is easy - hooking up the fuel lines blind with very limited space was very difficult.

    headlight problem.

Just in case someone has a similar problem, there are 2 relays - both identical laid in the cavity under the drivers side battery. Carquest gets $14 each for them. I replaced the 2 in 20 minutes and am golden again.

How to steal your own truck

We misplaced the keys to a GMC, gave a local dealer the VIN# and they cut new ones for us - it only took an hour and we were back on the road.

    headlight problem.

I finally fingered out my problem (with low beams, that is) the truck has a Fisher plow and there are two relays added to the truck's wiring. One or both relays are bad.

    headlight problem.

I lost the low beams - new bulbs and a relatively new dimmer switch turn signal assembly. If there's no relay then it must be the dimmer switch.

    Headlight replacement

The old lens wasn't just opaque - it also fogged inside - water was getting in, I'm not sure where. I'll probably just have to buy a better set of headlights and make sure the adjuster is functional.

    Headlight replacement

Not easily - the lower clip was impossible to remove due to limited clearance - I ended up taking a sawzall to the lower adjuster and popping it through the back.

    Headlight replacement

Sounded like an easy job, however it turned out to be almost 6 hours. The clips that hold the back of the adjusters to the truck are unbelievably difficult to remove. Maybe a circlip remover would have helped spread those clips. Worst part is that the $45 (pair) headlights I bought on ebay...

    Thrown belt

When I first bought my '93 IDI the belt always squealed, I took it back quite a few times until Ford had a service bulletin on the trouble. As I remember one of the aluminum castings was out of square - Ford replaced it (free) and it's been golden ever since. The truck now has 255K miles on it...

    DIY diesel fuel heater?

I used 3/8" refrigeration tubing wrapped 8 times around the fuel filter, covered it with insulation and then teed into both heater hoses, with valves for the summer. I haven't had a gelling problem since.

Is this unreal Mileage out of a 6.9 or something that is common?

For comparison, my work truck is a '08 F-350 with a small (gas) V-8 and a mpg readout on the dash... Plowing takes the mileage down to 4mpg.

Where does your voltmeter run at?

My battery light flickers every so often - the solution has always been to remove the two wire connector to the alternator and clean the contacts with spray cleaner - clean the contacts with a dentist tool or small screwdriver and you ought to be good for another year or two until it gunks up again.
