Harbor Freight Jack stand recall- sudden failure

That does it... I'm not ever going to use my Harbor Freight parachute again.

Lug nuts only go on backwards

Chrysler products back in the 1960's and early '70's had reverse threads on the passenger side wheels... or was it the driver's side?

Tire blowout! new tire and rim recommendation for heavy load

I put on Michelin XPS RIB radial truck tires last fall. These are very heavy 10 ply tires which cured a high speed vibration I've been throwing parts at without success for 15 years. The weight rating is 3044 lbs but the quality, weight, and ride was worth the $250 price per tire because now I...

Truck Hard to start when cold

I went through the same issue and replaced the batteries, injectors, injection pump and return lines. It still started hard. Finally I replaced the original starter which sounded OK but was not turning the engine over fast enough for it to start. Bought the starter on Ebay - think it was a DB...

So what did you do with your truck today?

Usually it lives in a heated garage - but yesterday my 270K mile '93 7.3 IDI started on a zero degree (F) morning with no block heater. I was impressed. Over the past few years I had the injection pump rebuilt, new injectors, but the one repair that made all the difference was replacing the...

    7.3 idi hard start

That short ten sec. cycle is too short and usually indicates that one or more of the glow plugs are not heating. The first try on a cold engine the glow plugs should remain energized for at least 30 seconds. You can watch the voltage drop while the glow plugs are heating.

    DB Starters

I've been throwing parts and money at hard starting problems in my '93 7.3IDI that I bought new 270K miles ago. New batteries, new injector pump, new return lines, new glow plugs but the truck continued to start hard despite being kept in a 45F degree heated garage. For $95 a DB starter changed...

What size hose from auxillary trans cooler to steel factory line?

It's a 1993 F-250. I have had lots of trouble getting a good seal where the rubber line attaches between the after market auxiliary cooler to the steel cooler lines - plus the hose clamps I can find are really flimsy and strip out easily. Anyone know the size of the stock steel cooler lines...

    1990 F250 Snow Plow Concerns

I've had a quick switch Fisher Plow on my '93 F-250 since 1998. Then too, I was told the plow was not recommended for the 7.3 because of the weight. So far no problems, and the weight of the engine makes the truck great to plow with. I just plow my own yard and don't go over the road (the only...

    Drive shaft questions

The U-Joint caps shouldn't go in as easily as you described. With my '93 F-250 the parts counter always had trouble finding the correct U-Joint. I always take a used one in with me so we can check it with a caliper and make sure the new one is exactly the same size as the old one. What the parts...

Nobody noticed the cardboard under the engine to catch the drips of oil that fell during the photo shoot?

    Balancing Beads for Tires.

I've had Centramatics for years. The originals stopped working (the material inside must have fused together after many miles) the folks at Centramatic sent me a new set for free. Can't beat that customer service.

    steel powder in rear differential

I did replace the sensor last fall with a napa part because the transmission was acting up (OD light flashing, hard shifts) and setting codes. The new sensor did stop the problem but at speeds above 60mph the speedometer needle would jump 10-15 miles per hour. Just recently it started making the...

    steel powder in rear differential

It's been a long time since I changed the oil in the rear end - maybe 50K miles. The truck has 265K miles, I've owned it since new. The speedometer jumps between 65-75, I pulled the sensor out and found it covered with steel filings. The oil level plug has a magnet too, it was full of filings. I...

    Cleaning out the radiator myslef?

My radiator wasn't cooling right, the fine copper foil between the cooling tubes rotted away from road salt. No amount of cleaning can repair that problem.

    Banks Trans Controler

I installed a transcommand at 50K miles, did a lot of tough towing in the mountains and in Mexico. The original transmission lasted to 220K miles, then I had it rebuilt. I think the transcommand made the transmission last longer. Nice firm upshifts, the mushyness was gone.

anybody ever change the solenoid at starter?

The starter solenoid on my '93 is above the passenger side wheel. I replaced it once.

    Circulating coolant heater.

The coolant heaters lose a lot of heat to the air. The block heater (a short coil in a freeze plug hole) heats the engine block more efficiently. Don't all IDI's come with a block heater?

thinking about putting this on my fuel filter

I put tees on the heater hoses, two valves and wrapped about 10 turns of soft 3/8" refrigeration tubing around the fuel filter. I haven't had a gelling problem in years. There is quite a lot of fuel passing through the filter; not all of it is burned, a good amount goes back to the tank where...
