Great conversation and lots of good points for pro and con. My take on why heavy trucks aren't running electrics has a lot to do with the industry that supports them. Simple fact is, a lot of those guys just are not good with electrical stuff. It's hard for some of them to keep the lights...- Agnem

I'm pretty sure I just read that you said there is NO fuel coming out of the schrader when it is running and your testing it. That's a problem! There is a specific test that REQUIRES a certain amount of flow when the engine is RUNNING from that schrader valve. This is a really simple problem...- Agnem

That's correct. It is impossible for the filter to drain back if the return line system is air tight. Don't discount any possible leaks in the fuel line back to the tank either.- Agnem

Definitely a fuel supply issue. It would be beneficial to add a fuel pressure gauge to your instrument cluster so you can see it happening. Everything you describe is a fuel availability problem. You can put whatever trans behind either engine, as long as you move everything from the crankshaft flange back. That means your clutch and converter choices must match the transmission.- Agnem

I'm surprised nobody asked you how many miles are on this fuel system. 100,000 miles is a ballpark average as to how long you should expect a pump and injectors to last. If you believe the motor may have this or more on these components, you will end up wasting a lot of time and money...- Agnem

Going back to the earlier question, relays do not require a diode on the coil. But a computer, or other electronics do. If your going to drive a relay with a silicone device, use one with a diode. No real reason to disable the IP. I'd rather disable the glow plugs. Just have the schrader valve depressed and crank until you have fuel.- Agnem

I would start with an electric pump conversion, just because if you are having a lift pump problem, this will hopefully solve it. I sell new lines too, and yes they are pricey. A junk yard, and taking care of your existing lines is always the best option. They never go bad if you don't mess them up.- Agnem

Running without a fuel filter
The injection pump has a non-serviceable filter screen in it that may or may not stop a particle of a large enough size. If your driving without a filter, it is slowly clogging, and you will be down on power, then down all together if it clogs bad enough.- Agnem

The O-ring will be needed when you swap your brass fitting over from the old pump to the new pump. There is a seal there that will appreciate your replacing it. :) The pin is needed only if you have a C6 automatic transmission. It goes in the throttle shaft to engage the vacuum transmission...- Agnem
