Why does my rebuilt turbo from Conestoga diesel have a bent/broken housing?

OK, so obviously we are talking to Shawn and taking care of things now that Monday is here, but since this is here I feel I need to state a few things. First off, it is always a good idea to talk to the responsible party before spilling things onto the internet. I appreciate and apologize for...

Gas used in 6.5TD!! Need opinions, recommendations etc...

Gasoline alone will not seize a diesel, but it can seize the head and rotor in a pump, which will snap the input shaft. I suppose it is possible (but unlikely) that the shaft did not snap, in which case it could appear that the engine is seized. Remove the pump to be sure. The pump will be junk.

    Powerband and fuel consumption figures?

To answer your question, your engine needs 13cc per thousand plunger strokes to idle at 700 RPM with no load.

    Attempting to help a friend

15w-40 is the right oil for winter use. Never heard of that BS before. His cranking speed is too low, or the glow plugs are not getting power. Do the voltmeter test at the #2 glow plug. With the wire connected to the plug, measure the voltage during WTS. Should start out around 6 volts and...

If i may ask what did you guy's pay for your truck or 7.3 or 6.9 powered vehicles?

$150,000 or so. It's buried in my Mortgage somewhere from 33 years ago, which I'm still paying on thanks to numerous refinancing.

Will a missing turbo crossover pipe damage anything on a short trip?

I watched a guy with an IDI do a tractor pull event with one of his up pipes missing. Won't hurt anything, but it sure doesn't work good. LOL

    remote mounted batteries..whos got em'?

Correct. I have a single group 31 under the bed, right in front of the left rear wheel. I welded up a tray out of angle steel, and bolted it to some fabricated brackets. There is a hold down of the typical plastic and threaded rod variety. During the 2015 IDI Weekend, when we did the parade...

    Injection pump ?

This is correct. However, that assumes that the metering valve is free to rotate when the FSS is energized. Removing the top cover and checking that the governor linkage moves freely would be worth a try. If it is, then the most likely scenario in this case is that the plungers are stuck...

    Your educated opinions please

Look at it this way... they have proved they will take a licking and keep on ticking. There is in fact a special tool to install the seal. You can possibly rent it from one of the autoparts stores.

Someone in Pittsburgh complaining about exhaust emissions is a kin to a German complaining about people being prosecuted for their religious beliefs. They should read their history books. LOL

    6.9 misfire at higher rpm

I doubt your problem is valve train. This is more typically due to an injection pump problem, however it could also be injectors. The smart way to approach it would be to get your injectors tested, and if they are good, then get a pump. But I can tell you that your injectors will not likely...

    10.25 questions

I like a good debate, so I'll comment on the grease versus lube this way. The manual is usually correct, and IF you do EXACTLY what it says. In other words, you need that grease that is that Ford part number, used with that gear oil that is that Ford part number. Now, having said that, I have...

94 IDI GP relay short out issue.

You shouldn't need to replace anything but the wiring. The batteries.... they may not charge properly off of a trickle charger. It may take a good 40 amps just to get them to pick up again. If you are to save them, they need a proper high amperage charge.

No start; GP + GPC issue?

He does not have an 7.3L glow plug system. They did not have them on 6.9's until 1987. He has the old style screw in controller and fender relay. You have 3 options. 1) - Replace all 8 glow plugs, and the glow plug controller. 2) - Replace all 8 glow plugs and implement a manual switch...

    Interesting reading...

Very interesting. Can't say I've ever thought of that, but it makes a good point. The pumps do a good job of venting the air before it can get compressed. That said, we all know air gets in at some point. The focal point of the article seems to be that the fluid gets compromised by...

    Injector question

Unfortunately, our technology pre-dates the computer era, so little or no information has been ported. Also, much of it is under wraps due to dealer agreements and so forth, so the best sources are library books on diesel technology. The cooling of injectors and fuel is a really big issue...

    Pyrometer/Thermocouple Fitment

I'm glad you ended up going ISSPRO. That is the brand I carry, because only ISSPRO pyrometers have in-cab temperature compensation. All pyrometers from competing makers are calibrated at 70 degrees, so unless it is 70 degrees in your cab, they are all inaccurate.

Don't discount the value of what is posted in the FAQ's at the top of this forum, and in the tech articles section. The key to long life and successful happy operation of these trucks is putting knowledge which is power in your brain. Knowing what NOT to do is equally as important as knowing...

    Injector question

We do see a lot of fuel out of the returns when calibrating Moose Mates. This is because you do have to flow a good amount of fuel to fill the passageway and get fuel to the top to see it exit. They all emit fuel from the return by design. If they did not, there would be no cooling of the...

    Hypermax or Banks . 88 f350

A wastegated turbo is a city turbo. A non-wastegated turbo is a highway turbo. Easiest way to sum it up. Fact of the matter is, a wastegated turbo is intentionally undersized, primarily these days for emissions reasons. The industry is in fact, moving away from them, because they are too...

    6.9 IN PLACE OF 94 IDI TURBO....DETAILS?

I'm pretty sure the C6 flexplate and E4OD flex plates are different, so you would do well to swap them. I would also say swap the fuel system over from the 7.3 to the 6.9. Here is how I would do it. Set both engines to TDC by putting the crankshaft damper mark in the center of the short fat...
