Fastest way to get the seat belt out is to drill the bolt. Use a drill a little bit larger than the bolt thread, and the head will come right off once the drill bit goes deep enough. You can then later use smaller drills and progressively go up in size till you can use a tap and clean the...
I cut my inner fender, not all the way but enough where I could fold the bottom up enough to gain clearance. When I was all done, a couple of short pieces of metal and sheetmetal screws holds the cut back together. I do not know any other way to get to those front bolts.
And you will find out...
Here's how it was wired in 1989. You can see the heavy duty power that supplies the glowplugs themselves has two fusible links, and two black/orange wires that turn into two yellow wires. If your truck was retro-fitted, someone may have used one large wire instead of these two wires.
The...
You said your truck's controller was a conversion in your first post. So more than likely none of your wiring colors are going to match the factory wiring colors for a truck that originally had that type of controller. Here are roughly the wiring colors and function for a truck that originally...
They make 7 pole flat blade connectors and 7 pin round pin connectors. The flat are rv standard connectors and the round pins are commonly used on 18 wheelers.
Besides trailers, they are also handy for use as general quick connnectors. No way of knowing what they are for without tracing some...
I have been doing some research, since I have never owned a E4OD. From what I am reading, the convertor locking up in 2nd gear may be normal depending on the throttle position. There is some debate about it on the web, I can't seem to find any official Ford documentation on it.
You have no...
^^^^^yes. Spring the key over to start with it in park and hold it. Then wiggle the transmission lever around while it's in park and see if tries to start. It may just be a tiny bit out of adjustment like IDIBRONCO said.
That was a good way to test it. Even though its considered a no-no, I have put compressed air on the whole system when it was empty, using soap and looking for leaks. I always put it on a vacuum for about a day afterwards. Never had any trouble yet. I don't mess with it enough to justify a...
Guy in the book says code 62 indicated a problem with the fourth and 3rd gear pressure switch. He does say check the wiring from the computer to the transmission first. Don't discount that advice, you can do a lot with your eyes and a visual inspection of the harness. See if anything has been...
I would clean the old one up and use it. Unless they leak, they rarely have a problem since they are right after the orifice with the screen in it. The one worth replacing is the condensor in front of the radiator. Anything that goes wrong with the compressor, ends up inside the condensor.
I have a champion. Went out and checked, the gap is on the top and the bottom, and on mine it's only like 1/2 inch. I never noticed it before, but have been running for years like that with no problems. A piece of some sort of rubber or stiff foam mounted to the shroud should take care of it.
Does sound like it but check one more thing. The solenoid needs a good ground where it's bolted to the inner fender. I think Ford may have put a small ground wire there. But as a test, if you have another jumper, try to clip it to the metal mounting of the solenoid, and then clip the other...
Another thing I have had happen quit frequently on older vehicles, the compressor clutch gap will end up getting too wide. That will also make the system cool intermittently. It should not be over .030 or so. On my truck I got everything working great in the driveway, but as I went down the...
You will want to adjust it if the compressor seems to prematurely cut off and then cut back on. If you have plenty of refrigerant in it, and it's cooling good on a hot day, and all of a sudden the compressor kicks off, then kicks back on, you can unplug the wiring plug to the low pressure...
Ford usually uses the PAG oil with r134a. But your truck was originally filled with r12 and used mineral oil.
Someone converted it. If they converted it and did not flush it and left the mineral oil in place, they used Ester oil during the conversion, it plays nice with the mineral oil left...
The overdrive is wonderful. You can actually have a conversation with someone in the cab and listen to the radio when going down the interstate.
Just think how many less rpms the engine will be turning and how much less wear will be on it between oil changes. So many less rpms per mile...
I assume you jumped the starter relay/solenoid on the fender? Did you jump the two large terminals or one of the large ones to the small terminal on the solenoid?
1. If you jumped the large terminals, try jumping from the + battery terminal to the small terminal on the solenoid. If it...
Does he even have a connector under the dash? I figured it was the old EECIV connectors under the hood. Here's how to pull the codes. Your check engine light has nothing to do with the computer as far as I know. You have a EECIV computer, but it's custom just for the transmission, it's not...
I left my VRV in place. Doesn't hurt anything. You do need to cap the vacuum supply line that runs to it. if you want to make a little money, offer the VRV in the classifieds, they are hard to find in working condition.
Many people including myself when I got my truck, do not know they really do have tilt. Look at the slot where the turnsignal lever comes out of the column. If it looks like a sideways "T", grab the bottom of the steering wheel to support it, and then gently push the turnsignal lever toward...
