Took some life away from my starter today

When the solenoid gets hot it can weld itself together. I do not think you would ever had gotten it started with no glowplugs and the starter. The only way I have been able to start one of these things with no glowplugs was to pull it or drift it down a long hill in 3rd or 4th gear. When it...

Glowplug issue just in time for winter

The rating for wires can get complicated. Is it in open air? Or is it in a conduit? Is it in a conduit with a bunch of other wires? The NEC code is fairly conservative compared to what Ford used. You will find Ford regularly used a 10 gauge charge wire on there 40, 60, and 70 amp...

Glowplug issue just in time for winter

If you left everything alone, and plugged the glowplug connectors back on the glowplugs, I bet the system would have worked. It's all I had to do every couple of weeks to keep mine going. Those connections get corroded on the glowplugs. After a few months of doing that, I went to manual...

    Fuel line clogged

You may have to crawl under there for a preliminary inspection. I can't remember exactly, but am thinking the valve may be under the cab. So taking the bed off may do you no good for that part of the work to be done.

    Fuel line clogged

That's a roll of the dice though. So your old FSV does work, at least half of it does. When mine failed, no thunk, so none of it worked. So the sending unit switching would not work either. Just bringing this out for people down the road who are going to modify their fuel systems.

Bad coolant leak for a few minutes during cold mornings

The old style worm clamps work fine, I have them all over my vehicles. But if you install new hoses under the clamp, guaranteed you will have to snug them down after they get some miles on them.

Here's one. Don't know if they are available in all sizes or not. https://us.bddiesel.com/products/constant-tension-hose-clamps-high-torque-2-59in-2-94in?variant=30073871401024

Do you have a separate electrical switch for the sending units?

Bad coolant leak for a few minutes during cold mornings

I do not know how shops do it. If I ran a shop and replaced any hoses in the cooling system, and used a worm clamp, I would have to reschedule a visit 2 or 3 weeks later. Tell the customer to stop by and I would have to tighten the worm clamp. It's like clockwork, If I replace a hose with a...

    Fuel line clogged

If you want a reliable truck, get a new tank if the old ones are rusty. They are not that expensive. The plastic lines are pretty reliable, but the short metal section at the sending unit is prone to getting pinholes.

Bad coolant leak for a few minutes during cold mornings

All you usually have to do is go around and snug the hose clamps. Do them all with a 5/16 nut driver. I bet it will stop. It's just from the rubber in the hose shrinking under the clamp. I used to hate those aggravating hose clamps the factory used that were made out of wire and you had to...

Burning up fuel shut off solenoids.

The voltage that high can cause the batteries to use water. It should not run that high on a consistent basis.

    A/C blows fuse #9 immediately

That sounds right. When installed properly the diode is actually installed backwards, so it does not conduct when the clutch is supplied voltage, but does conduct when the voltage is removed and the kickback from the coil(which is reverse polarity) is trying to go backwards into the circuit.

    A/C blows fuse #9 immediately

Sounds like you are easily installing and removing the diode. Are you installing it the correct direction? If you put the diode in the wrong way, it will be a dead short. Leave the diode out and see if the problem goes away. If it does, I think it's installed backwards. Using the compressor...

    Arduino Glow-plug Controller, Build & Walk-through

A dumb timer would actually be more reliable, but it would not have a way to compensate for a warm engine. I have a manual button and I am the "dumb operator" who decides how long to glow the plugs. Basically unless it's very cold, I do not glow the plugs at all if the engine has been running...

    Arduino Glow-plug Controller, Build & Walk-through

Hard to see in this picture, but there is a flat shiny piece of metal going from the large stud to the point where the green "glowplug" connection is shown. This is the shunt. It's a calibrated resistance in the glowplug circuit. Of course it's resistance is very very low, but it is enough to...

    Arduino Glow-plug Controller, Build & Walk-through

If he wanted to measure the current draw, he could use the same piece the factory used. The z-bar piece of flat metal is their shunt. They measure the voltage drop across the z-bar and calculate the current draw from that. But as we all know, that doesn't work very well if you have wiring or...

    94 F250 Dana 50 ball joint question

Flush out the grease that comes with the new balljoints? What would be the reason for that? Tighten the lower ball joint nut to 30 ftlbs, Install the upper ball joint nut and tighten it full to spec. If the cotter pin hole does not line up, keep tightening till the hole lines up for the...

    Arduino Glow-plug Controller, Build & Walk-through

I am wondering about your theory on the amperage measurement and it's requirement. You want to "protect" the other plugs if one goes bad? I do not see the other plugs going bad if you are using your temp sensors for the engine temp. If you have a time versus temp curve, I think that might...

Does this look Welded to You?

Anything to do with the stabilizer or another name for it is "sway bar" is not going to cause death wobble or anything else that serious. It's just there to keep the truck flatter when it goes around turns, helping the handling. On many trucks the sway bar was an option and part of a handling...

    Factory Wire Colors

This diagram shows it. It's the same year as mine, a 1989. I do not have a light in the dash. When the over temp switch activates, it's tied into the coolant temp sender wire and it makes the temp gauge peg suddenly. It says the over temp wire color in 1989 was red/white(same as the coolant...

    Factory Wire Colors

Coolant temp sensor wire for the gauge is red wire with a white stripe. Are we sure a 94 has a overheat switch on it? The diagrams did not show it, but that doesn't mean much sometimes.
