    Have seen enough of those fail to put a fuse near it, so that when they fail it takes out that fuse instead of burning the fuse links and losing power to the injection pump and being broke down. The earlier trucks all key on power to the engine goes through the same link.

    Those boxes usually have .5 quart or so left in them depending on how twisted up the nozzle is coming out of the box. Usually just hang the bag and poke a hole in the corner and drain into jugs. Makes good cheap bar oil.

    The fitting on the return outlet of the pump is what regulates the housing pressure in the pump. I have seen them run just like you describe if that valve is stuck open or bad.

    Interesting on the ground effects. And the suburban was just built that way, I wasnt trying for low rpm torque tall gearing mpg. If I was, I would have used a turbo 6.2.

    In my experience with gas motors and really tall gearing, it can actually work pretty well and get really good mpg...to about 70mph. After that just felt like wind resistance was too much for the lack of torque ( at diesel like rpm). Was a very low 1500 2wd suburban with 350tbi 700r4 and 2.73...

    Nothing wrong, everything functioning as new, except much more power than stock, and with an intercooler in front adding more heat to the radiator and reducing airflow to the radiator. I have owned enough and used enough of these trucks to know that with power level much over factory turbo...

    Starter Interchangability

    Idi starter wont bolt to the 460 bell, but if you are bolting the idi to the 460 bell it will work, because the starter bolts to the adapter on the back of the block.

    How hot is too hot

    Dont know what it would take to ruin one, especially if it doesnt lose coolant. Have seen 265-270 (on real temp gauge, and verified with temp gun because I didnt believe it) for 10 minutes or so several times. This was pulling a pass several times over a couple summers.

    Looks like that turbo uses the stock sized exhaust housing (which is really small), with a better exhaust wheel for more flow. With that small of a housing, would still be good to control drive pressure. More boost means very little to nothing if drive pressure gets too high.

    If checking voltage at plugs with all connected, voltage will be much lower, like 9.5 ish if they are actually working.

    What are you using for glow plugs, and have you checked for voltage to the plugs? If it starts easily with starting fluid, hard to believe it is anything other than no heat from the plugs
