Broken fuel tank shower head fix tutorial

To be clear, where is that hose supposed to go? I would imagine it should be going into the tank to allow air out. I made sure it was pushed into the tank when I installed it but it probably got pulled out during the battle I had with it re-installing.

Broken fuel tank shower head fix tutorial

Everything is back in the truck and it runs fine off the rear. Really had to wrestle the s*** out of it to get it in and hooked up. However, when filling it up at the station it would back up very fast. I’m guessing an issue with a breather or something. Any ideas what might be causing this...

    Cleaning out Fuel Tanks

Floor jack and loosen the bolts which I would highly recommend soaking in penetrating oil well ahead of time. Oddly mine we're clean but I have cleaned motorcycle tanks with vinegar and bb's and you just shake it around every day and let it sit for a week. After I did this I coated the inside...

Broken fuel tank shower head fix tutorial

I should have paid more attention when I took it off but how can I identify which is the send hose and which is the return hose? I went the hose/inline filter route with some additional instructions from @Clb, thank you. Also back flushed the lines with air from the lift pump but only did it...

Broken fuel tank shower head fix tutorial

I'm still considering doing this too. I've done a lot of research and there are of course people who say just put it back to factory when you can but, I think the idea of getting rid of the plastic showerhead seems smart. Thats the thing that fails so why put another one in?

Broken fuel tank shower head fix tutorial

I guess I thought that maybe the sending unit was cracked or something was wrong but in reality when I was switching to the back tank it might not have been getting correct fuel delivery because of a piece of plastic in the fuel line or in the FSV. Safe to assume the sending unit is fine and I...

Broken fuel tank shower head fix tutorial

Understood, any insight on checking the FSV? Funny that the showerhead is needed for the last 1/4 and its not included when you buy a new one

Broken fuel tank shower head fix tutorial

I hope I'm not hijacking this and its all helpful information for anyone else who does this, if so please let me know and I'll start a separate thread. I took the sending unit out and of course the shower head was broken and its floating around in the tank. My question is, just because the...

Broken fuel tank shower head fix tutorial

Without lifting the bed, getting the tank out was a real PITA. One of the tabs on the end of the fuel line broke (brittle plastic) are these replaceable or does anyone have any alternate ideas? Maybe just a hose clamp? ^^ are you suggesting that it might just be the shower head - listed as...

Broken fuel tank shower head fix tutorial

Went through this thread and found this link which I think fits mine, if not there is the side mount version: https://www.trexautoparts.com/products/1985-1986-fordr-fs-pu-19-gal-diesel-rear-tank-su I'm sharing it here so that other people can easily find the parts. Seems to be a bit of an...

Broken fuel tank shower head fix tutorial

Reviving an old one. I'm working on doing this to my rear tank because I think once the tank gets lower it seems to have some kind of leak eventually making the engine shut off. I'm wondering about this part... Is that capped off side also 3/8? And what is the best thing to use to cap it?

    Removing trailer brake/bleeding brakes

The trickle charger was charging hilariously slow... so I gave up and tried again. Prepared for it to not start but thinking why not I pushed the clutch in and the starter turned. Because I hadn't warmed the glow plugs, I let off, warmed glow plugs then it didn't work, tried again and it worked...

    Removing trailer brake/bleeding brakes

I can't answer that with certainty because out of habit I always push the clutch in to start. Any idea what that switch looks like? I had to hammer pretty ******* the brake booster to get it to come off the truck so I easily could have rattled something loose. I wouldnt have considered this to...

    Removing trailer brake/bleeding brakes

I wasn't offended you brought up a good point that I didn't mention exactly what I did. I didn't actually disconnect the brake controller yet so all of that wiring is still in tact. Agreed to this so I'll put a trickle charger on it, although I would think it would still at least get the...

    Removing trailer brake/bleeding brakes

Well... I replaced the master cylinder, brake booster and both front brake pads+calipers, bled the brakes and then went to start it and got nothing. The "Engine Temp" and "Water in Fuel" lights where on when I turned the key to the start position and nothing happened, no click sounds, nothing...

    Removing trailer brake/bleeding brakes

I think there might have been some confusion with my original question because there is a blue wire that also goes the brake controller. I was curious if anyone knew what the blue wire in the photo with the spade connector on it was because I'm assuming that one is a factory wire thats just...

    Removing trailer brake/bleeding brakes

Yeah that makes sense. I'll report back after completion. Any idea what that blue wire thats unplugged with the spade is?

    Removing trailer brake/bleeding brakes

Yes, on the master there is just a splitter so I can plug the brake line right back on there. I'm more curious about the wiring. Would just unplugging it and then capping the wires off be ok? Picture below:

    Removing trailer brake/bleeding brakes

^^ This is what I've always done but according to this write up the metering valve screws everything up and its easier this way. I think I'll just bench bleed the master then try the old fashioned way first. I think I'll be able to just pull the whole line out of the system, its got some...

    Removing trailer brake/bleeding brakes

I've replaced the front calipers and pads, new master cyl and new brake booster. Now the brakes need to be bled. I've got a trailer brake that I don't use and I'd like to remove. Is it as simple as just disconnecting the brake line that goes to it and unplugging and caping the wires? In terms...

    She just... died....

Reviving this, I got another car that I've been working on so this was pretty far back, sorry. Yesterday I did a very thorough inspection of the return lines, caps, lift pump, IP, and lines from tank. I got the truck running and it appears that the problem only occurs when I switch to the rear...

    She just... died....

It doesn't leak fuel to the ground so if anything it must be draining back. The lift pump is relatively new like 4 years. I don't see any fuel leaking anywhere so I feel like this may be hard to diagnose. I already bypassed the water separator too. Any idea what some other main causes of this...
