Anyone have any experience with this shop?
Buying a set of heads that have been rebuilt by them and wanted to make sure they knew what they were doing...
If anyone has experience with them... Post up please.
One step forward... Two steps back...
Seems to be a common theme with this truck. What I thought was an exhaust leak at the Y pipe ended up not being an exhaust leak at all. I hung the exhaust on the truck and the sound traveled with the exhaust.. the tap tap tap was coming from the...
My only concern is a lack of competent machine shops in my area...
However, I suppose if I have them only check them for cracks and install guides... they probably cant screw that up. I can lap the valves in by hand and clean everything up myself along with reassembly.
I know in some cases... It's a simple press out/press in job... Others have to be drilled/reamed.. Heated... Froze...
Just don't know the specifics for the idi....
Hey guys...
Anyone here replace their own valve guides? If so, how much of a pain was it?
I have access to a press and valve grinder along with assorted mills, etc..
Thanks
That's what I'm getting at.
It seems to only change if I blip the throttle just right. If it's not making the noise and I just let it run... It doesn't seem to change. Same goes for if it's tapping.. Sound only changes when I rev the engine.
Also, there is no huff or chugging sound...
Why would it go away and come back if thats the case?
I can rev it up and it'll go away and not come back until I rev the engine hard again...
Also, if that were the case... wouldn't it have a miss... even a slight one due to compression loss? Wouldn't it haze slightly or something...
Here is a video...
It had been sitting for an hour or so. You can hear it pretty distinctly. By the end of the video, its very faint.. almost gone.

Well.. I never updated the signature but I have a LONG build thread going... lol
Truck is a '90 F350 Crew 4x4 5 spd. I bought the truck with a starting issue.. after it was all said and done, ended up having a pushrod jammed through a lifter.
I had this engine sitting from another...
Hey guys...
So I was working on the truck today trying to finish getting it ready to drive. I fired it up and let it run for a bit and ever since I put this engine in the truck, it sounded like it had an exhaust leak at the crossover pipe which I wasnt worried about... (a slight ticking...
It ain't bad to put the flywheel in... Just be prepared for the weight. Dont let the old one drop on you.
Also, the new one comes with bolts so you could cut the heads off 2 of the old ones and use them for guides. Just don't thread them in all the way so you can remove them.
Not sure why... I'm not using the LUK master/slave nor is a buddy of mine. He's using a parts store pre-bled unit and I'm using what my truck had on in when I got it. Looked fairly new so didnt feel like replacing it.
As far as clutch difference, I'd say it's the friction material used. The flywheels are different between turbo and NA applications as they are balanced differently. ONLY use an NA flywheel for NA rotating assemblies. Factory turbo trucks, use a turbo specific flywheel.
It's pretty simple. A couple guys with the right tools can handle it in a few hours. Keep the transfer case on the trans just be warned, it's awkward and heavy.
Part numbers... ALL PART NUMBERS ARE FOR FACTORY NON-TURBO APPLICATION. FACTORY TURBO USES A DIFFERENT FLYWHEEL.
Wear...
LUK for sure. Buy the flywheel and clutch kit separately on rockauto and you'll save $50 or so rather then buying the master kit. Don't forget the 5% discount code.
As stated, all hardware will be included.
I would go on and replace the clutch fork as it is a wear item and it's cheap...
Hey guys...
Been working out a bunch of bugs. Installed new beru glow plugs, built a new harness, and rewired the controller.
Now, the controller sorta works. It cycles the wts light as it should... On about 10 seconds when cold then flickers off.... however the controller is not...
