Super (Duty) -Visor advice on cold start

Also, at this point, a lot of things are worn out which is why some IDIs will not start when at half/full throttle - it becomes *too* retarded.

    Oil Catch Can Drain Point

If you are getting a ton of oil coming through here, you might want to move your CDR intake from the crankcase vent to the valve cover like they do on the ATS/factory turbo kits. Add a baffle on the inside of the valve cover, and a hole through one of the round flat spots on it. This should...

    2 to 4wd swap ideas

I've got "Triple A", my '1987 F-350 C&C dually truck with a flatbed on it. It's got a 7.3(yes), ATS 088 turbo, and a C6 that was recently rebuilt. 3.55 gearing. I paid $600 for it. Now, up where I am, 2wd is basically useless for half the year. My plan for this truck is: 1. Convert to 4x4. 2...

Building NA 7.3 bottom for factory turbo truck

The thing I've learned about IDIs is... More air + more fuel = more power. Also, for whatever power level you want, if you can add more air than needed, you'll get much better EGTs. Also, boost doesn't blow head gaskets. It's *used* boost. So, 20 PSI on a stock 6.9 with stock fuel would...

    1st post. Advice on safely re-starting a 94 7.3

Honestly, the hydraulic lifters are on both sides, above the "trough" made by the valley. What I would expect to happen is that crud would end up in the oil pan, get sucked up by the pump and end up in the oil filter. Still not a good idea to get stuff into, but less of a problem for dust and...

    1st post. Advice on safely re-starting a 94 7.3

Honestly, with a scrap of metal, you could patch just about any size hole, then slather the surrounding area in silicone stuff. Then, you can get the engine running and driving, worry about fixing it 'right' later, once everything has been tested and you know what else to replace while you are...

Plan B solution - Get in there, wire brush the pitted area, clean it all up with acetone/mek... then use Permatex 1-minute-gasket and just glue it up - should be a much easier fix and it's not under pressure anyway...

ported and polished heads on an idi?

I've got to find pictures of my own... With ZF5 and 4.10s(and turbo), they tend to top out around 92 ish; I've seen over 100 with a double-overdrive system.... Not that I was driving that fast myself, mind. The turbo is the big difference - N/A you'll barely get into the 80s, especially with a...

Go look for the 'torque screw' and if you have one, back it out 1/4". That may well be your problem.

Full or empty tank while stored in south

Just a thought to throw out there... Tank wise, I'd empty it. You've got the electric pump, when you come back just add fuel, drain a bit off(till it looks/smells good) and call it good. IP wise... I'm wondering about getting some thin motor oil, like 5W20 or something, fill the fuel filter(and...

is this the truck for the job

With the turbo and fuel to match... 70+ is totally reasonable on flat ground hauling as big of a load as you can get(Last load... 4 tons of hay + trailer, figure 17K gross combined? Only slowed down on the 2-mile long 6% grade; had to drop it into 3rd 3/4 of the way up and crest at around...

    7.3 idi boost.....

The only turbo I got noticable boost free-revving it like that is my S360 with .63 exhaust housing - so large turbo(lots of air-moving capacity), with a tight exhaust housing.

    Pensacola diesel?

There stuff is cheap for a reason. Bought one set of remanufactured injectors like 6 years ago. They only lasted a few months and were all over the place, with(IIRC) one badly leaking, and the rest all over in pop pressure from 1200 to 1800. So, yeah, don't buy IP or injectors from them.

Everything seems to be leaking. 94 IDIT

That's cleaner than any IDI I own :/ I'm used to nothing behind the vibration dampener ever rusting because it's coated with a thin layer of oil and grime.

    Opinions on oil

Here's one tidbit, on winterized/blended fuel: http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=21441 Here's an article: https://www.proboat.com/2018/04/diesel-fuel-additives-part-2-lubricity-facts-and-fictions/ Of note there is that additives are added "at the rack"/fuel terminal - I'm guessing when...

    Opinions on oil

That's because all the blowby is getting sucked into the CDR. Pull the air cleaner with it idling and look down the intake. You'll see a large stream of blowby from the CDR(rear center of intake manifold) going forward and into the cylinders. Today's fuel from the refinary doesn't lubricate...

    Differential noise??

I've seen all the rear diffs wear over the years, and yeah, you get a bit of play in there. My thought is if it's getting annoying, buy a "crush sleeve eliminator" and shim kit for the differential, and just shim it till you've got just a little clearance left. I ran some tinfoil through between...

    Opinions on oil

Cheap 15W40 and change it on a regular basis. The oil doesn't wear out, it just gets full of crud which is too small for the filter to clean. I like Mobil Delvac because they seem to run discounts on a regular basis.

Draining ALL the oil from block, not just the pan?

Honestly, just bar it over. Either it will move or it won't. If you can rotate it through a full cycle, put the GPs back and crank it for like 30 seconds with the starter. Then try to actually start it. I'm thinking there's a good chance you actually didn't get any water through the cylinders...

Draining ALL the oil from block, not just the pan?

It wouldn't hurt I think. I'd definitely find a small metal rod and push it up through the hole to make sure there's nothing blocking it. Then, perhaps put the drain plug back in, pour a quart of diesel in the oil fill, and wait for a few minutes, then drain again. At that point, well, just...

Draining ALL the oil from block, not just the pan?

...If you have buildup in there from previous neglect, yes. In which case, I'd pour diesel in there instead of oil - it's a better solvent. In most cases, this would be total overkill - I've pulled several pans, and not seen any buildup(as expected), because any and all dirt/soot is suspended...

    1st post. Advice on safely re-starting a 94 7.3

You may want to check/replace the CDR tube - where it goes into the valley pan at the back of the motor. This(I forgot) is a likely source of water into motor, especially if the drain hole next to it is plugged up with crud.
