Road from Durango, CO to Grand Junction, CO

I've been on that road several times. Durango to Silverton isn't too bad. Silverton over Red Mountain to Ouray is a SOB in snow. It's pretty steep with a lot of curves. Can it be done? Yes as long as you take your time, say in a low gear and don't get in a hurry and have good brakes on the...

If your truck is vibrating this might be the culprit

The tech said the flex plate wasn't cracked but did have some play in it. I had it changed while the truck was apart. No sense in spending $4k on a transmission job and not replace the flex plate while you're right there. The tech and service writer were both impressed. Said it was the...

If your truck is vibrating this might be the culprit

Don't know how long it was like that. I bought the truck in November and didn't recognize a vibration then. Definitely noticed it a month or 2 ago and just now was able to get it to a shop.

If your truck is vibrating this might be the culprit

Here's a nice carnage picture for y'all. This was in my '03. Had a hell of a vibration from 1750-2250 under light throttle. Carrier bearing was bad so I replaced it and the u-joints. The crack is about 2/3 of the way around and is wide enough to see daylight through. $4000 later I...

Compression "Jake Brake" for a 12 Valve!

Oh damn I just got a chub. Guess I might have to hold on to my smoky old 1st Gen a little longer after all.

Rattling in Front and fuel filter replace question

A piece of clear poly tubing attached to the drain line should do the trick.

    Back in a Powestroke

Thanks fellas. It's got a few dents and things I want to change up but I'm sure loving the new truck...especially not having to shift the transmission. ;Sweet

    10k mod and EOT mod

The 10k didn't really do anything for mileage for me nor did it produce any significant amount of smoke over stock. So a search in the stickies for on Google for guzzle's mod page. Excellent write up on the subject.

    FS: 1st Gen Dodge Cummins

Located near Baton Rouge. Truck is in great shape. Just don't need it since I upgraded to a crew cab Powerstroke. Here's a link to the Craigslist ad for it. Asking $6k but open to reasonable offers. http://batonrouge.craigslist.org/cto/3325346755.html

    99 psd q's

While not 100% accurate, one tell tell way is to look at the badging on the truck. Early 99 had the smallish "V8 Powerstroke" emblem on the fender by the headlights. The late 99s had the more conventional badging on the doors like the later trucks.

    Back in a Powestroke

Well guys, I've been away for quite a while but I'm back piloting a Powerstroke. Picked this up today: It's a '03 F250 Lariat with a 7.3. Interior looks brand new and the undercarriage is clean. Mileage is 175k and I picked it up for $8000 after trading in the wife's Z71.

dinamic timing advance for the ve pumps

From what I understand, the M&H part works to advance the timing electronically by manipulating the KSB. This can work to give you additiaonal timing advance in addition to (or in place of) the pump rotation method. Results are mixed as to the benefit, but I wouldn't have a problem running it...

    Radio doesn't work

You probably have a bad wire between the fuse box and the radio. The fuseable links are under the hood on the driver's side fender. You could check for power on either side of the links.

    smoke?

The timing advance on the side of the pump is called the KSB. Attached is a PDF extraction from the Cummins Service Manual for the B Series engines explaining how it works. The OP's symptoms sound like the engine is allowing some unburnt fuel to be sent out. Mine does the same thing when...

    brakes!

I'm guessing a distribution block. The big line is probably supply and one line for each front caliper and one to the rear of the truck. But that's nothing but speculation. By the way, when messing around with brakes you can bypass the RWAL system by installing a couple of fittings. This...
