    New parts truck/blown head gasket

My son and I just replaced head gaskets on his 94 7.3, we did not remove the engine. You do need to remove the rad support and I would say a cherry picker is a must have item to put the heads back on so you don't damage the new gaskets and a small supply of rubber bands are needed to hold a few...

The next issue,, rolling coal delete

Hmmm, good point. I just tossed the pump back in on the original marks, they may not have been right?

The next issue,, rolling coal delete

Yep that's what I was thinking 1 or 2 more flats as my 6.9 didn't smoke until you really put it under load and even then you could barely see it. Actually I did see the valves as we were doing head gaskets and surprisingly they were clean as was everything internal we exposed. Yes kids, they...

The next, next issue,,, Glow plug system

Ok resolved the issue, the solenoid was bad. it would cycle and close but did not conduct across the main power terminals. No more cranking for minutes to get it started, fires right up.

The next, next issue,,, Glow plug system

Ok, I just got a helper. I tested the terminals on the solenoid. One of the large ones has bat volts all the time. We cycled the key to glow, the other large terminal with the resistor has nothing and both of the small terminals have bat volts. Am I thinking correctly that the other large...

The next, next issue,,, Glow plug system

Just went out and removed the air cleaner and the cover on the relay. Checked the "heavy" wire on the solenoid and battery volts are present. Have to wait until the boy gets up, he works 3rd shift to test the output at the relay.

The next, next issue,,, Glow plug system

I'm into helping you guys help me, figuring out forum functions is much easier than reinventing the wheel when there is an abundance of knowledge and experience that can save me much aggravation.

The next, next issue,,, Glow plug system

Well a bit behind on forum functions and in case it doesn't show up we have a 94 F250

The next, next issue,,, Glow plug system

On to the next, next issue, I checked the glow plugs while they were out of this thing and I found 1 that reads open and the other 7 have various resistance readings. I looked at the base and they are autolites so we will be replacing the entire set as they are needed in PA in winter and from...

The next issue,, rolling coal delete

This thing was a real smoker, I mean to the point of being what I consider to be a safety issue for anyone following closer than 1/4 mile. While the pump was out I turned it down 3 flats just needed to know the symptoms in case I went to far. We just had it out for a test ride and we still had...

The next issue,, rolling coal delete

Ok I thought that might be the answer. How do I know if I adjust the pump to low, what might the indicators be?

The next issue,, rolling coal delete

The next issue that needs resolved from the previous owner is the injector pump setting. Young fella owned it and was obsessed with rolling coal, and turned up the pump. Not a problem except he cant tell us how much he turned it up. Any once and done procedure to get back to original settings?

    Cooling sytem problem 7.3

Truck is back together and no longer expelling pressure into the overflow tank. We didn't pull the engine, however we did pull the radiator support and did have a floor hoist to help handle those heavy heads for reassembly. In frame wasn't bad, only one bolt needed to remain in the head on the...

    Cooling sytem problem 7.3

Pulled the passenger head today,,, gasket looked pretty sad and deteriorated, once I cracked the bolts loose it started putting water on the floor, the drivers side stayed sealed down and needed persuasion to break the seal. Ok questions,,, had an injector that must not have had a good...

    Cooling sytem problem 7.3

Finally got the time to pull the truck into the shop, had the boys pull the radiator support, grill etc.. Surveyed the situation last night, no external engine oil leaks except around the mechanical lift pump, 3 hours later I had everything ready to pull heads except for the exhaust manifolds...
