Thanks @IDIBRONCO I am hopeful about the manual transmission! I'm a retired truck driver so I have a thing for jamming gears lol. I suspected that 300 hp at the wheels was a long shot. Do any of the guys you mentioned for IP do comprehensive engine work?- groovemonster

Hey gang! I love this forum, it is the best and has the most knowledgeable and passionate idi people around! I have an 1986 6.9 idit. It has low miles, approximately 120k-130k (odo broke for a little while). The truck is my current DD but I am having a hard time keeping up with all the issues...- groovemonster

fuel system overhaul
As for new IP and injectors, stay away from Pensacola Diesel. Unless you want to do the job twice! I had bad IP right from the box, and their fuel line parts are pathetic. I wish I could steer you towards a company I have first hand experience with but I can't - although many on this forum can...- groovemonster

Yes, it is the fender mount solenoid. When you say power cables are referring to the battery cables?- groovemonster

AMAZING! My truck now only has 1 leak!
When I got my idit it suffered from lack of use. As a result, EVERYTHING LEAKED - power steering, transmission, oil, fuel, coolant - EVERYTHING lol. Around July of last year I stripped the engine down and rebuilt the fuel system, cooling system, and a lot more. The first day running it came back...- groovemonster

Hard start when the engine is hot
The return line kit they sold me was not fitting well over the injectors. So I removed them and put the oem plastic tee's back and it has significantly helped the hard start problem. Now it starts within 5-7 seconds.. Which is still longer than a cold start but way better than 30+ seconds. I...- groovemonster

Thanks for the input, I apologize I have been slow in responding. But to answer a few posts.... First, I will try the heat sink trick and see if it works I purchased the IP and injectors from Pensacola Diesel. Hard start when the engine is hot
I Just replaced the entire fuel system in my 86 IDIT. Lift pump, IP, injectors, glow plugs and harness, and all new fuel lines on the engine. When cold (first start of the day) it fires immediately and idles well. But once the engine is up to temp and I try to start it, the engine cranks for 30+...- groovemonster

Cetane Booster beneficial in a 7.3 idi?
I use a cocktail of marvels mystery oil and diesel clean. I don't think my mpg's (I hover around 17) improve much but the engine is happier and The classic diesel clatter is a bit muted.- groovemonster

What else do you drive?
My DD is my 86 F250. I have been driving it for almost 4 years now. It's clean and straight and runs excellent so I'm hoping to keep it as my DD for as long as possible. Can't fit all my kids in the IDI THOUGH, So my wife has a 13 Durango. It's a plain Jane AWD but it's a good grocery-getter- groovemonster

He got a few facts wrong, but he wasn't wrong about new trucks! He also seemed to get what the allure is to these old things... At least to me. They are simple, not perfect. They represent work and function, not slick status. They aren't over powered... But they seem to always get the job done...- groovemonster
