Time to completely fix my truck... But need advise

Considering I'm not talented enough to build the engine I desire, and no local shops want to touch it [you would think the truck is radioactive the way they act lol] Shipping will need to be a necessary expense.

Time to completely fix my truck... But need advise

Thanks @IDIBRONCO I am hopeful about the manual transmission! I'm a retired truck driver so I have a thing for jamming gears lol. I suspected that 300 hp at the wheels was a long shot. Do any of the guys you mentioned for IP do comprehensive engine work?

Time to completely fix my truck... But need advise

Hey gang! I love this forum, it is the best and has the most knowledgeable and passionate idi people around! I have an 1986 6.9 idit. It has low miles, approximately 120k-130k (odo broke for a little while). The truck is my current DD but I am having a hard time keeping up with all the issues...

    fuel system overhaul

As for new IP and injectors, stay away from Pensacola Diesel. Unless you want to do the job twice! I had bad IP right from the box, and their fuel line parts are pathetic. I wish I could steer you towards a company I have first hand experience with but I can't - although many on this forum can...

Why does my truck keep frying starter solenoids?

Yes, it is the fender mount solenoid. When you say power cables are referring to the battery cables?

Why does my truck keep frying starter solenoids?

86 f250 IDIT burned out 2 solenoids in 5 days. what is causing this?

AMAZING! My truck now only has 1 leak!

When I got my idit it suffered from lack of use. As a result, EVERYTHING LEAKED - power steering, transmission, oil, fuel, coolant - EVERYTHING lol. Around July of last year I stripped the engine down and rebuilt the fuel system, cooling system, and a lot more. The first day running it came back...

Hard start when the engine is hot

The return line kit they sold me was not fitting well over the injectors. So I removed them and put the oem plastic tee's back and it has significantly helped the hard start problem. Now it starts within 5-7 seconds.. Which is still longer than a cold start but way better than 30+ seconds. I...

Hard start when the engine is hot

Thanks for the input, I apologize I have been slow in responding. But to answer a few posts.... First, I will try the heat sink trick and see if it works I purchased the IP and injectors from Pensacola Diesel. Unfortunately, I did not know about their reputation prior to the purchase as this...

Hard start when the engine is hot

I Just replaced the entire fuel system in my 86 IDIT. Lift pump, IP, injectors, glow plugs and harness, and all new fuel lines on the engine. When cold (first start of the day) it fires immediately and idles well. But once the engine is up to temp and I try to start it, the engine cranks for 30+...

Cetane Booster beneficial in a 7.3 idi?

I use a cocktail of marvels mystery oil and diesel clean. I don't think my mpg's (I hover around 17) improve much but the engine is happier and The classic diesel clatter is a bit muted.

    What else do you drive?

My DD is my 86 F250. I have been driving it for almost 4 years now. It's clean and straight and runs excellent so I'm hoping to keep it as my DD for as long as possible. Can't fit all my kids in the IDI THOUGH, So my wife has a 13 Durango. It's a plain Jane AWD but it's a good grocery-getter

Finally! IDIs are getting some RESPECT! J/K

He got a few facts wrong, but he wasn't wrong about new trucks! He also seemed to get what the allure is to these old things... At least to me. They are simple, not perfect. They represent work and function, not slick status. They aren't over powered... But they seem to always get the job done...

    7.3 ATS '91 Engine: what's it worth?

As a parts motor it's worth 200-300. It looks like a major project to rebuild. And it may have significant problems such as a cracked block. If you could eliminate some of the worst case possibilities and Know its a solid core, maybe 500. Just my humble opinion.

Help Unravel The Mysteries of my IDIT

Thanks IDIBronco, that helps get me going in the right direction. I have called a dozen diesel shops and no one will work on my truck. This makes me my own mechanic by default. I will check for those studs In a couple weeks when I'm back under the hood.

    Moving Saturday

you can't plan for EVERYTHING - just most things. I'd say you have most things covered but my guess is the IDI ain't gonna give you any trouble! Mine sat for a year in Michigan. I replaced the batteries 2 days before I drove it straight to lower Alabama fully loaded with absolutely no problems...

    Ran out of coolant

A couple years ago I ran my truck all day more than 2 gallons low on coolant. It never overheated, and thankfully I realized there was a problem and fixed it quickly. My point is, the engine suffered no perceptible trauma . . . still going strong 2 years and 20,000 miles later! I wouldn't worry...
