Interesting test result out of my IP , After i spoke to my local Diesel shop tech which they are the main distributor dealer for Stanadyne diesel pumps, They also rebuild them @ the shop , etc .
He said to test the internal timing gear correctly the RPM must be @ 2k then hit the timing arm , if the Eng change it's speed surged etc then my internal working correctly if no change then its dead give away its bad . Mind you i was previously told before to just toggle the arm while the truck idling .
So i went home got the green machine running and had my son get it up to 2k RPM's as i hit the timing arm the Eng droops it's RPM's and acted funny like the tech told me . At this point the tech told me my Pump timing gear internals is working like it should and if any thing i might need to bring it in for timing @ $85 not bad specially they will use the meter to time it .
One minute i was told i have a bad pump the next minute i have a good pump ..

Just because the internal timing advance is working correctly doesn't mean the pump is good.
Agreed .However when you receive a conflict ways of testing during the process of elimination and minimum knowledge of these pumps it leaves you in stage of the unknown that is all .i know i need a new /rebuild pump as mine is leaking but got to save up 4 it

And Gary rents the meter to you so uou can do it your self anf make marks for a couple of different settings....just sayin.
