Hey guys hope your weekend is going well. I Just ordered a new motorcraft thermostat part #RT-1049. The thermostat on the left is the new one and the one on the right is my old one. The design of the two thermostats looks different. I am a little concerned and was wondering if you guys could help me with this issue. Did motorcraft change the design of the RT-1049 thermostat? The old one is taller than the one I just received in the mail. Any help would be awesome. Thanks

The one on the right might be Motorcraft, but not for our trucks. I had one on mine and had nothing but problems with it running hot. I put one on the truck like the one on the left and all my temp issues went away.

What makes you think the one on the right is a motorcraft stat... Surely the one on the left is what you want in your engine. I have been buying motorcraft thermostats for years and have never found anything like what you have on the right... I'm thinking its a chaniase knockoff part. We saw that happn a few months ago to someone out here in Cali.. Two of those top straps had broken and the last one was ready to let go too. Caught it just in time... China was stamped right in the part too...

Hmm I was told by the PO that he installed a motorcraft thermostat a couple years ago. I just assumed that my new thermostat was supposed to look like the old one.

Wow everyone. I just looked closely at my old thermostat, and two of the top straps are broken as well. There are several stress cracks around the edges too.

Stand by, Hydro-idi. Will take a close look at new Navistar-Int'l unit I got recently. Thx to procrastination (and replacing IP much easier without the thermostat up-pipe), haven't installed it yet. Will have pics of mine for you in a couple hours. :sly

Am replacing the made-in-china aftermarket I was running (DOH!!!!), which did OK. Can't find pic, but one of my two engines had a gasser, small-center-flow-hole thermostat in it. Yes, it DID fit.

Installed made-in-china into engine I have been running. <hangs-head-in-shame>

the one on the right,,was originally made by robertshaw thermostats.. whic has been bought out, some time ago..... i believe,,theres only one stat manu in america,,and most are junk....when robertshaw made the one on the right,,they were the highest flow design at the time.... and i never seen one break.. but the china knockoffs??? J U N K!!!!
