I'd like to see the charts- its the 'area under the curve' that will determine how well the truck performs in the real world.

I'm curious if:

1. type4's cam has a flatter delivery across the spectrum and

2. if the J2 cam is more of a peaky power cam.

:dunno

Really makes me wanna go run mine... it sure feels like over 200, but every time I see results I am surprised at the numbers.

My previous truck was a Dmax LBZ. If I could get this old girl (paid for;Really) close to its advertised 360/650 it'd be pretty sweet.
The j2 is almost the same power curve just later, I have a dyno sheet overlay I will get up when I can.

On edit I do have a uhaul pump in mine, in the toolbox as a spare.LOLLOL

Also My engine has nothing done to it but a water pumpp in 80k and a cold air inlet, same old pump and REMAN e codes I put in 7 years ago, so my whole thing was to do a daily driver test and I am impressed, I have ony 2 lbs of fuel psi at the schrader under pull.

And yeah I know the injector guy should have the latest and greatest but , WTH.

My WG is blocked, did one pull, hooked it up ,lost tons of everything, unhokked again backed up the first pull verbatim. then checked the psi and wished ida had time ti add a pump but maybe later, First time ive ever been on a dyno, what fun. oh my timing is at 9, set years ago , it was written on my buddys adapter box:rotflmao

K guys copied from PSN

On way to the run...NMB2 lost a rear of block core plug and coolant leaked out. :puke::puke: ****** deal for sure and I would love to have seen his #'s oh well regardless it will be corrected and he'll have it running fer sure.

At the least it was caught quick enough to not loose the engine or his new clutch:hail

Yes ,severe bummer, I will tell you this, I have never seen a dually accelerate like that, my truck will git it and he left likea flash, it WILL be a runner.

Yeh reading these #'s, I am almost considering keeping my banks setup, adding a cam, studs, and stage 1 and turbo pump. Looking at that there isnt much gain from all the rest of the work.

And I get 19 mpg empty at 2k or under. I dont even have a hot pump its just turned wide open.

And and then ppl get pissy when you ask whether it is worth the money to build an IDI or swap it out.....shoot if I drop $2500 on my IDI....I would want more of a gain than that....

:eek:Is that so.... Read my build below.... I have around $5000.00 in the engine build. I'm not wanting for hp or torque. I get 18.9 mph doing 75 to 85 mph across the country with a Moose pump. With my double overdrive my final drive ratio is 1.96. Her is the pics...

well it helps when you have crapp tons of gearing options. I am running a zf and 5 spd. that will stay unless some amazing deal happens. So tell my where the the $2500-3000 is gonna be awesome investment for 235 rwhp?

BTW how much hp/tq are you laying down...

Hes never done it, doesnt care.

Gary has a truck that can tow anything you want cross country reliably, you don't need dyno numbers for that. I would like to see Gary's truck turn the rollers, I'd bet he is right up there with the the top contenders.:sly It is not hard to chew up $2500-3000 into any diesel. I got closer to $5,000 in mine and haven't really went for any performance except for what the ATS turbo gives. I thought the whole idea here was to see what we can do with an IDI.....:dunno

My build was for all the available hp that is lost in the engine due to poor factory maching. Then balancing closer than needed to smooth out the power. Then ccing all the precups and combustion area so each cylinder makes the same power pulse on the crank. Then a Moose pump and a matched pop tested set of BB codes. Then finally porting. No secrets here. I need the realibility of a engine that can get me safely to a horse show with over $100,000.00 horses in tow. Time is important. Being relieable is way too important too. I have a few "things" that will boost what I have built. Like installing my hypermax intercooler. Its been sitting here in the box way too long. No excuses. These engines need lots of maching to get them back to what the designers put down on paper. Sleeving them is a must do item if you want a safe engine. Sleeving is around $1000.00 out here on the west coast. My trans and Gear Vendors cost was right near $8000.00 and I installed both of them. I know these costs are not what the average owner will invest in one of these rigs. I did it for me and I'm not attempting to impress anyone. My rig needs paint. I run the stock wheel covers and steel rims. If I ruin a rim I can find one in most any wrecking yard. I installed double Fat Mat in the cab and doors. That makes the sound from the engine and road so low you think your in a gasser going down the road. Someday I will have the seats done because the bench seat up front is the hardest bench I have ever sat on. I want buckets and the wife doesn't.. So maybe she will ride in the back and I will get my buckets...:sly Build em for yourself. Trying to impress others is a loosing battle. Those of us in the know around here know who has the finest rigs ever. My hats off to them too....:hail

If you are looking perspective, here's one: A guy goes and builds an engine configuration that nobody's running, gets it running one week, then lays a 477 pound egg on the rollers the following weekend. The only real tuning he's done is what they did right then and there, and he's fueled out. Put me down in the "impressed" column. Let him tweak on it a bit, get the fuel setup, and then pass judgement.

Wow, now honestly I feel bad for NMB2 at this point. I know what its like to put so much work into an engine only to have it blow up time after time. I don't know how many miles he has on this thing, but in comparison my brown truck dropped the **** 3 times in less than 2500 miles, the first time i didn't even have 75 on it. I'll honestly tip my hat to the guy if he can hold his composure and get back to work on it. I know I couldn't even stand to look at my brown truck for almost 6 months after it blew up the last time, I just let it sit with the antifreeze in the oil pan. As much as I cared about that truck I couldn't bring myself to mess with it anymore. I had already rebuilt it twice in the winter outside, -14 the day I pulled the head the first time.

As Gary said, I'd be majorly disappointed if I were the drummin guy. I'd imagine theres gotta be allot left in that thing.

He ran out of fuel, so stay tuned. disappointment would be if there was no clue why it pulled up south of 500.

Correct me if I am wrong, but hasn't Russ unearthed Heaths prior power record on this site? Seems it might be time for an update on the old HP threads in the tech section Mr. Moderators. ;Sweet

Dyno runs are all about "run what ya brung"

No one said anything about him not having room to improve on his setup, nor shirking any future power improvements he does to get more out of it. What was said was there was dissapointment that this was all he got from all the work he put into it. Enough fuel, or not enough, his truck came very close to being spanked by Russ's truck, which has less injector, less pump, and way less turbo and according to Russ, has hardly been touched since he rebuilt it 80k miles ago.

It's simply an observation, and just as valid of one as your observation/perspective.
