If you dont have something constructive to contribute why bother posting?
You seem to have godly knowledge about the subject so why not share it, dont be a *****.
HMMMM I did not call anyone on this Forum any names, what gives you the right?

Same as everyone else... 15w-40 and oversized filter every 3000-5000 miles you'll be fine. Never failed me before ;Sweet

Now for what oil is best - it's the one you choose...

I always liked to run Shell Rotella and got oil samples done - was happy...

Then one day I thought I would run AMSOIL - did the deed - didn't change filter brands - wanted to see what effect the oil had on the samples not oil and filter brand changes...

Took sample down after same interval of dead dino's and dropped off - old man that runs Blackstone pretty much told me I wasted my money and what I will see when the sample results come back...

Left feeling pretty down - some of you older guys might remember the posts (was quite a few years ago so dig deep into your memory banks)...

well after getting the results back I was quite surprised... the wear levels dropped in HALF!!!! yes half... it was simply amazing... every sample after that showed continued to show lower wear levels vs dead dino's.... Talked to another guy down at Blackstone and he said the old guy was wrong - he see's lower levels with syn oils all the time.

Did same test with my Cummins and gas powered rigs around - all showed lower levels but none quite as good as the Enterprise 1 did... Which her wear levels were always on the high side for some odd reason... but one thing that did ring true and that was the AMSOIL always provided better protection adn it was proven with the oil samples.

Now I would suspect that any syn oil will protect better so I can't say that AMSOIL is the only way to go but I know that when I was playing with oil samples and AMSOIL it was far better than dead dino's anyday.

I have always run the PSD filter only because it's larger so it should be able to catch more deposits.

the larger filter only holds more oil thats it. If you want to catch MORE deposits you need to find a filter that catches smaller deposits, then you are getting places...

that's why I ran a bypass filter setup from AMSOIL. Only complaint was the cost - ended up selling it off at the last IDI weekend before I sold the truck. It was the last piece of the Enteprise 1 I still had around. I think it ended up getting sold off again on here a few months ago. It had been converted over to run on the Cummins.

You dont drive anymore? that bypass will fit your lawn mower and last 50,000 miles.

Not a problem...

I was running my oil for 3k miles (conventional motor oil - Shell Rotella) and wanted to see the effects of AMSOIL and not skew the results so I ran it 3k miles and changed it as well, Then took a sample just as I had always done and took it it. Again wanted everything to be as close to the same as I could so that I could see if the oil made a difference.

I ended up when I was all finished with the entire package (AMSOIL and dual filter head - bypass and full flow filters) running the oil I think it was 12-15k miles on the Enterprise and with the Cummins I was able to squeeze it out to 15k + on a regular basis. I always had the oil tested and let it tell me when to change it.

I was never able to find a direct replacement for the AMSOIL filters locally as I wanted to be able to get them cheaper and do some testing with them as well but things in this area of the country can be sometimes a little hard to come by on the shelves.

If the old Delo was so good 5 years ago how come they dont continue selling it?

I believe the EPA Nixed that.

Heres my thoughts.

1) oils now have to meet certain standards. Those standards pretty much level the playing field in my book. Now is DELO better than Walmart brand? Probably. I think like with anything you get what you pay for. Obviously the amsoil is a better oil than DELO, but is the price worth the reward?

2) Brand loyalties. People are loyal to their brands, and If that works for you great, but it might not work for everyone. Is Coke better than Pepsi? Is Budweiser better than Coors? Is Ford better than Chevy? Well that last one is the truth but you get my drift. Someone may have blown an engine running shell and now uses only delo. does that make delo better than shell? to him it does, but he is biased, rightfully or not, who knows.

3)Find something you like and stick to it. Heck run some tests yourself. Run a few brands and send the oil off to be analysed. Just because someone swears to brand a, doesnt mean that brand b is any worse, or heck even better (hint you chevy guys)

4)Is synthetic worth it? I think has been more debated than politics, religion, and sports combined, although i may be slightly exagerating. draw your own conclusions on synthetics but for the record here are mine: If its an engine subjected to severe driving such as long idling, heavy towing, 4400 RPM;Really, than go ahead and put syn in it. If you just use the truck like I do as a DD and a load of lumber here and there, than stick with the regular stuff or even a syn blend.

5) as for what weight of oil, i use 15w-40 and i bet the majority of the guys here do as well. Maybe someone would like to chime in on the benifits of a different weight oil but I think 15w40 will cover the widest range of temps and climates. Sidenote: i know the detroits use straight weight oil and I am curious as to why that is. I know it aint to keep them from leakingLOLLOL

Anyway ill get off my soap box.
