I dont buy oil in the drums or anything but the price for the 5 quart Motorcraft 15-40 just went down to $11.50. That makes my oil change about $35 including an extra quart for the filter, and of course the filter itself.

wow my oil changes are around $80-$90 a time! i run 10qts rotella 15w40, 2 qts Lucas treatment, and a k&n psd filter(probably the biggest cost adder) but it has a big nut on the bottom so its easier to change. i buy the lucas a gallon at a time. i will always put lucas in because i can feel the smoother starts when its cold.

Just grabbed 5 jugs of delo 1300 for 11.70ea - last ones they had at a Super Wally. My FL1995's are $9.95ea - less in bulk at Rockauto or Fleet.

I justed checked the bottle, and I've been using that Castrol Tection Extra that rated in the lower bracket. 
Looks like I have an oil change coming soon.

I have been running the Valvoline Premium Blue in all my trucks, including my IDI. Also ran it in my 500 hp BBF before i sold it. I love this stuff. Anyone else running it? I have accesss to rotella at the farm as we get it at sams in the 55 gallon drums for our tractors but i really dont like Quaker state and they make rotella.

Which Rotella? The CI4 or the new CJ4 stuff? the old Rotella was great stuff, none of this new stuff seems to be quite as good. As far as the extended oil change intervals I have had lots of oil sampling done and the additive package and viscoscity of the oil always seemed OK even when I would dump it at around 3500 miles. I don't know how much further you could go and I don't know what my TBN was at the time as I was always too cheap to pay for that except for the first blackstone analysis and it was perfectly fine, but that was only at around 2500 miles.

That's great, but all I have ever been able to get around here was the CJ4 Valvoline Blue, and it is now as expensive as the rotella CJ4 or more...
Although there has been much contoversy around the cj-4 oils in reality with a modest oil change interval there realy HASNT been any real reason for concern. Bob the oil guy has TONS AND TONS of reports that support this. The only probs seem to occur after 15k miles or so where TBN dropout becomes an issue and I would bet that 99 percent of us dont run our oil that long anyway.

Given the $3.00 rebate per gallon getting the price on the Delvac to $8.77per gallon for me I'm going to but up to the limit for the rebate: 12 gallons. I just used 4.5 for the change I did on the PSD this afternoon (I flush my HPOP), so I figure it'll be good for a few oil changes. Can't argue with the price and at least it's "satisfactory" according to the report posted...

I run Esso XD-3 0W40 full synthetic in all of my engines, gas or diesel... 1 case of 4x4L jugs = $92 or thereabouts last I bought one. That's $23 for just a bit more than a gallon. BUT, it is well worth it, and I do extended drains and sampling. I ran my PSD over 23,000km on a change once, and they told me I was still good for another 5....

Every one of the oils on the list in that report have more than enough critical additives to run a 5k oil change interval which they failed to mention. I would be more worried about what the oil looks like after running it than the ****** analysis. The biggest scare people had is when they thought zinc was Eliminated from the oils which isnt true at all. It was just reduced along with the TBN content. But if you are only running the oil anywhere from 5-10k in a healthy engine there isnt anyway you would deplete those levels anyway. There are many people that are running rotella and delvac up to 20k without any real concerns. There are quite a few oil analysis reports up on the board that support that. Now trucking companies that have hundreds of trucks to service, yes they are concerned with dropping their OCI'S from the usual 20k to 15k from a monetary standpoint. But most of us really dont have any real reason for concern. Run a modest oil change interval with any good diesel rated oil and you will be fine. Just my opinion though!!

Probably if you run a 3K mile change interval even a pretty crappy oil as long as it's diesel rated will be just fine. I haven't had any oil analysis done in awhile so I really can't be sure what the CJ4 oil is or is not doing with my rig.
