Hello everyone. Finally got my first diesel, trucks info in sig. Originally was looking for a powerstroke, but decided to go for the idi and slots of research. Picked her up in Houston and drove it 3 hours home to San Marcos. Lost the alt belt just out of Houston, so made almost the whole trip with no brakes, that was fun. Then stalled from air intrusion in the middle of the night coming back from new Braunfels on my birthday. Smoked the starter trying to purge it. That was awesome aswell. But so far loving the truck. Completely replaced the glow plug system with Napa controller, Ford plugs and Classic Diesel Designs harness. Just put in new moose buddy injectors and their return line kit. Just need to get the pump timed, pretty sure it's off a bit as she's still a little smokey, anyone around San Marcos know how?

This is what she looks like, have a few things lined up for her, CB radio, tool box out of other truck, centurion overhead console and remote start/keyless entry to start off.

Beautiful truck man, I like it! I have an 86' with the 6.9l and love it. Mine has an air intrusion as well, but I just went ahead and installed an electric fuel pump and it fires up immediately. (I know I should fix the air intrusion, but 3 years later I still haven't got around to it, lol)

Check out Classic Diesel Designs website, he's not far from you, in Bergheim. There are a few of us in your area, I'm just south of Fredericksburg. If you can make it, check out the annual Texas IDI Round Up. Wes from CDD host it.

Hi
Air Intrusion, either a ruptured hose right before or after the lift pump or loose hose clamps, possible O ring compromised at the injector fuel return caps or loose injector supply line is where ive always found it. and do yourself a favor, install a clear fuel line from the filter housing to the fuel return rail on the passenger side of the engine. it helps determine where the air intrusion is before or after the fuel filter.

Thanks for the tips! I already rebuilt the fuel lines from the ground up, dropped both tanks and ran all new line, hoses and clamps. Put new injectors along with the return line kit from moose diesel. No more air problems that I can tell now! I didn't do the clear hose though, if it acts up again I'll try that. Just smokes a good bit. I talked to CDD and he said he can help with timing it next month. Also ordered their glow plug harness when I re did the whole glow plug system, so she immediately starts right up every time now.

Thank you! Hey I could use an excuse to head up to Fredericksburg haha. Any idea when the round up is, I'd love to check that out. PO had an electric fuel pump on it, probably for the same problem, but I wanted to keep it close to all mechanical as I can so when I put the orig pump back on that caused problems. But all fixed now!

In the Katy area, on craigslist. He was the original owner.

Yea if it wasn't for the fact that my parents live in Houston I probably wouldn't have gotten it. It certainly wasn't ready for a 3 hr drive back home. Hardly made it to their house 15 minutes away.
And the injectors aren't too bad, just take your time. It took me about a day but I was talking my sweet time and cleaning the bores extra good with a 12ga shotgun cleaning brush.

I'm new to the forum, but glad I joined. Sounds like lots of good people and info here.
I have a BLACK, 1987 F350, 6.9 single cab, we bought new.
Love the truck but she looks rough. Needs paint, top of hood and cab the worse. Started peeling when it was 3 years old.. Was told it was a. problem with the factory paint but they wouldn't fix

on warranty. I had problems with it sucking in air at the factory water separator on the drivers side fire wall. Had 2 replaced on warranty the first 30.000 miles. I just bypassed it when the 2nd one went out. It has never got better than 12 mpg and was low on power, even empty on hills

I had new aftermarket injectors put in at 127,000 miles and it helped on the power, but milage is still at 12mpg. Hopefully will learn from the forum.
