Best reman 7.3 IDIT long block ?
Promar? There's a place in Michigan.. name escapes me.. anyone else have any suggestions?

I really wanted my original IDI-T block rebuilt locally but it was too far gone.

I went with Promar and have certainly had my share of issues. They were really the only game in town that was easy to work with. My engine runs well and makes good power but there were several things that I flat out should not have had to deal with. The owner of the company is very responsive.

Doesn't Justin offer engines? I think that Wes does some too. Try giving those two guys a call. Nothing against Promar, but I'd trust either of those guys long before I would trust a place that doesn't specialize in the IDI engines.

Do you have a turbo engine now. Most of the places will only exchange turbo for turbo engine. Or with a real healthy up charge.

A turbo engine should have a C code in the vin at least in 93 they did. Also check the stamped code on front of block right behind IP cover , should be stamped with a T there in the numbers. Just because it has a turbo on it does not make it a turbo engine. A lot of people have put NA engine in over the years. So unless you have owned the truck it whole life you never know.

As a general rule, I don't endorse machine shops. As a former machinist I think it's a little unfair, as I expect it to be better than I could do it myself. I'm going to tell you that after seeing a block that Justin at R&D decked on 7.3 IDI block, the finish was incredibly high quality. I've fly cut a lot of stuff myself, and I've seen lots of really good engine machining with really swanky fixturing and equipment where no expense was spared. All that being said: the finish on the decked block at R&D was freakin superb. Like better than I've seen with way, way better stuff. If I was paying for a reman, he'd be getting my money based on the machine work I saw and his familiarity with IDIs and nothing else.

Lots of other good vendors on this site (Russ builds a great turbo and his injectors are top notch).

Endorsement over. Good luck whatever way you go.

Dad bought it new off the lot, even has the original turbo diesel badge.. the garret was replaced with a sidewinder.
I know the full history in the truck, C or K should be TD
